Harrison at AR15performance has had something like this for sometime now.

has 2- one based on the grendal case and other on the 6.8 spc case.

been eyeballin them for a while due to great sub 600 yard performance and good LR target

I like the idea of it in a bolt gun. But I think my next will be the 6gt.

I don’t understand how that will differ from the 6.5 Grendel shooting the same bullet weight, I wonder if Bill Alexander may have pissed someone off to the point that the DOD won’t touch it, to my feeble mind, a cartridge with the ability to shoot 90gr to 140gr projectiles would be better suited for the military.

I will have to keep an eye on the ARC over the next few months.

Hornady stayed better barrier performance. I think due to higher velocity.

Is this another answer to a question that should never have been asked?

I don’t think so. I think it fits perfect for someone wanting to run a gas gun in competition out to 1k and not have to lug around something 30% heavier. I could see them being very popular with ladies especially.

Yeah, i dont get it either. Here's a comparison note from their site...

vs
6.5 Grendel
• The 6mm ARC delivers comparable performance from a wider assortment of bullets, making it a more versatile choice.

The 6mm stuff is being able to shoot 50gr stuff all the way up to 110/115 stuff. Varmits to target, appeals to plenty enough for Hornady to get this cartridge SAMMI’s stamp of approval.

Is a grendal better? Maybe, maybe not.

is it a cartridge I’m excited about, yes. Will I get it, not this year as there is bound to be problems and tweaks.

for now, a TAC 6, maybe 6mm predator (similar to the 6mm ARC) fits the bill for me as both of those rounds are still technically wild cats but plenty of info on both of them gathered over the last 4-5 years.

I’ll definitely need to look into 6mm bullets a bit, with the Grendel having a very good track record with 90-130 bullets for anything from varmints to medium game and it being easily a 1000+ yard caliber, I can’t really wrap my head around what the ARC can do better other than shooting lighter bullets, if you load the Grendel with the same weight projectiles it should perform basically the same, I can’t imagine a .5mm smaller bullet giving the ARC that much of a better BC, but then again I’m a novice with all this so I’m definitely going to keep an eye on it.

I'm pretty sure 6.5 will have better BC and SD across the spectrum, and not sure 6mm has a better selection of available projectiles either. The 6.5 ELD Match in 130gr has a better G1 and G7 BC than anything they make in 6mm.

As one of the CBRs herein, after reading all the hype I can find about it, I have come to the same conclusion to which I come every time a 'new' 6mm-ish round hits the market: they ain't done enough to justify the cost over shooting a .243 Win.

imo

Just looked at the ballistics.

ARC with a 103-108 gr bullet at 2750 fps from a 18" bbl.
6x45 with a 100 gr bullet at 2650 fps from a 20" bbl.

You'll need a new bolt and mags besides barrel for the ARC. 6x45mm would just need a barrel. All the 6x45mm needs to load is run 5.56 brass thru the sizer and top with a 6mm pill.

can you fit .243 win into an AR15?

Nope. But you can in an AR 10. :D

My comment was directed more to caliber than to platform. 6mm ARC will require fairly extensive mods to the M4 platform.

So I have been spending a lot of time trying to read what’s out there on this cartridge. Ideally, if this cartridge pans out, I would like to be able to build a 12.5” and an 18” and have it become my primary over my current 5.56 rigs. Beyond cost, the two major things I’m waiting on is terminal ballistic data and working out the mag issue. I may just build a 18” version to hunt with to start and see how the adoption of the cartridge goes before going all in. I prefer to limit the number of different calibers i shoot but this one may cause me to add to the list.

I’ve been wanting to neck up a 5.56 to 6mm for well over a decade. I agree with you CD, I think the 100fps less but be able to keep the same bolt face and mags is the ticket!
