I need tires for my old trailer.
It wears 7.00x16 currently.
The interweb says 205 90R16
Is the closest metric.

Discount tire website doesn't carry anything in that size. I want to stick with a narrow tire, this trailer is only used offroad.
Anyone have a lead on an affordable replacement?

That’s the same size as some of the old military tires. How much do you want to spend? You can buy them new for around $150 each.

$150 each is way over budget.
I'm going to check at the used tire places in N. Durham.
It may be cheaper to swap the wheels to 15".
They are jeep CJ pattern lugs.
I like the original wheels but not $300 worth of like.

If 215/85r16 is close enough in size, I think those are a fairly available tire size

Found these for $96 each at discount tire.
Narrow is better for this application.

If you do decide to switch to 15 inch rims, that is not a bad idea. comparable 15 inch tires are often cheaper than 16 inch.
I wonder what the 15 inch size equivalent tire would be? If it’s something pretty common, then you might be able to even find used ones when you need them.
But if it’s not a common size, then might not end up being any cheaper than the 16s you have found
