Concerned with blinding muzzle flash from my 7.5" AR pistol.

In addition to a "blast diverter" can anyone comment on low muzzle flash combinations for 5.56?
Velocity will be anemic due to short tube, so heavy bullet with fast powder?

I need it to cycle due to it's intended role, but a blinding flash in low light situations is not acceptable.20181206_183829.jpg

I have a 8.5" AR with pistol length gas system. I found that H4198 at a min charge of 19.0gn, with a 55 FMJ, worked quite well. Less recoil, flash and noise compared to factory loads.

4198 is short extruded right?
I should have stated I'm loading on progressive so ball or flake is preferred.
I'm gonna try out BLC (2) with a 75gr.

with standard 5.56 pressure loads you should still be seeing upwards of 2400fps out of a 7" barrel with 55gr projectiles. H4198 is an excellent powder for low flash. I like H4895 myself but I haven't tried it out of the shorter than 10" barrels yet.

I bet this would get rid of that muzzle flash for you.

Interesting data.
26" to 7" looses 1021fps.

Who has a 26" barreled AR15 pistol?

The bigger jump in terms of percentage is the 350fps lost between a 10" and a 7"

But then again, you can fold it up and fit it into a nice size lunchbox or diaperbag with a Law Tactical folder adapter. And even with Ray Charles behind the trigger, you don't want 30rds coming at you from 0-50yds.

My bet is a big fireball with blc2. I tried in in 308 and omg what a fireball.

Yes, it is a small stick powder. I did not have any problems dropping it from my Lee Autodrum, that I have installed on my Dillon 550.

I picked that powder since it appeared to be the fastest burning powder appropriate for an AR. If you want to use a ball powder, pick one from the fast burning end of the burn rate chart.

I have h335 on hand. Will try a minimum charge to start.

Since no one has said it yet... LOL!!! You said 7.5” AR and low flash in the same line. Everyone knows any .223 below 10” is simply a flame throwing, flash bang.

Sorry but I couldn’t resist. Good luck though.
