I am trying to sort through all of the options. I am mostly interested in which ones may have a steel receiver, and take 870 stocks and magazine tube extensions.
If you have any experience please let me know. Thanks.

You would be better off getting a Benelli pump or an older 870, police trade in ,etc. I believe Mossbergs have an aluminum receiver but they are solid shotguns.

I had an IAC Hawk for a short while. 870 furniture did fit with some slight adjustments. It was just ok, not great or even comparable with an actual 870. The extractor, broke within 100 rounds and the fit and finish was pretty bad. You seem handy and like to tinker with things so you may enjoy one. If it were me, I would just look around and find a deal on an actual 870.

I have had a couple of Mossberg/Maverick/Westernfield, they are good guns but I just have too much “muscle memory” with Remingtons and I am too lazy to learn something else.

Any leads? That would be my first choice but I haven’t had much luck finding one.be
They come and go as agencies sell offbatches. Next time I see some come up I’ll give you a shout.

The store above has them fairly regularly.

If you posted up a WTB, you might have some luck here on the forum.

Honestly I have always preferred the Mossberg placement of the safety. You can operate safety with your thumb without moving your firing grip

Correct, unless you have a pistol grip stock and then you cannot access it on the Mossy. I also prefer the bolt release placement on the Remington.
Neither is bad, it’s really just personal preference.

Yes I understand having a preference. I tired to like a pistol grip, but I spent years hunting with non pistol grip.- seemed like it didn’t solve any issues I had- good luck in your search

You are absolutely correct. Nothing swings or points like a traditional stock when hunting.
But for “tactical” applications, a pistol grip allows you to keep the muzzle up and pointed at the threat while reloading. It is also a LOT more comfortable when standing with the shotgun slung in front of you for longs periods of time. A traditional stock puts your wrist at a really weird angle.

Thanks. Unfortunately I just saw this and the 870’s are already sold out.

They will get more. I’d be checking their website several times a week and jump on the next deal.
