9mm and 5.56mm AKs

I'm not sure I've seen these discussed on CFF...

Are alternate caliber AKs included in the "auto-loading Kommie Rifles" section?

I guess it would probably depend on which one you are talking about. I wouldn't include the Chiappa 9mm pistol ak looking thing.

The PSA rifles look pretty legit. It will be interesting to see how the turn out. I hate that they went with MP5 mags for 9mm. It's nice to see that the 5.56 mag adapter isn't limited to GI mags.

The NAK9 is the one I would pick over the PAK9 simply because you can use normal handguards.

"Kalashnikov USA" claims they have a 9mm AK coming out, but they've also been claiming they have 7.62x39 AK's coming out for years now, so don't hold your breath on those. Probably wont be all that great if they ever do produce any.

5.56 options are limited apart from PSA when they finally put something out. Couple Norinco models, Bulgarian 106 series, 5.56 SAR and WASR, the Yugo rifles (the hard to find early ones like the M90A, and the newer model that takes AR mags), Saigas and Veprs. There might be more....
What sucks about just about every quality 5.56 AK is the cost of mags.

If you want to count Galils, there is the new Galil Ace in 5.56.

I saw news of this during SHOT. PSA ought to work on perfecting - or at least "decenting" (? ) - its 7.62x39 PSAK before rolling out new stuff. Way too many documented problems with the American-made AKs for me to want to roll the dice on my dime.

Love an AK but why borrow all the problems of the platform (optics, ergos) for a PCC when there are so many options?
