Anybody have a good baseline load for 9mm using W231 under a 124 grain plated RN bullet?
I'm thinking 4.3 - 4.4 but first time loading 9mm.

Is there a better powder that I should be looking for? I have 231 since I use it in 45ACP.

Follow your latest reloading guide. If I give you my 9mm Blue dot load, which I use with a 125gr lead bullet, you better check with your loading manual. My load might cause your aluminum frame 9mm to behave badly, as in having a shortened life. The manuals need to be looked at to verify a hot-rodder like myself doesn't get you hurt.
W-W 231 is fine, Unique, Bullseye, Power Pistol, Titegroup, HP-38 and many other fast powders work great. Just be aware of how easy it is to double-charge your 9mm case with the fast-burning powders. It is especially easy to do on a progressive press.
Winchester 231 and 4.0gr is a better starting point. If I remember correctly, Berry's Plated bullets are typically restricted to 1200FPS loads, due to their thin plating. Unless you wish to deal with excess leading in your barrel.
Good Luck in finding an accurate load.

Thanks, yeah I see how easy it would be to double charge a pistol round.
I use a single stage press, and just do 25-50 rounds at a time, so I am able to pay attention to that.
I'll just buy V Crowns or Gold Dots if I want something hotter.

You can usually buy boxes of Hornady Action Pistol (HAP) or XTP hollow points if you want to get accurate high-velocity bullets. They go on sale occasionally for loose boxes of 500.
The most accurate 9mm bullet that I have found is the Nosler JHP. It has bested groups with factory ammo. No matter the weight, the Nosler is tough to beat. Probably why they cost so much.
I use SNS coated lead bullets in my 9mm and .45's for cheap and accurate loads.

Winchester 231 is an excellent choice for 9mm. Flows easily through powder measure and I have found it to be accurate and clean burning.

Lots of powders work well in 9mm. W231 should work well. Two of my favorites, though, are Power Pistol and BE86.

I prefer plated bullets, but coated bullets will work well, and I would prefer them if primarily shooting at steel targets. If you want higher velocity loads, look at the RMR in-house FMJ or JHP bullets.
