In SC on public land do I have to wear orange for squirrel? When I'm walking to I need to unload my rifle? I know stupid questions but I don't know and can't seem to find a solid answer online.

I went today but didn't see anything. I think it was too cold and with the high wind kept them in their nests.

Also any tips for a first time squirrel hunter? I didn't grow up hunting like alot of you ;)

I haven't kept up to date on the WMA rules but it used to be orange wasn't required for small game hunting unless it was done during deer season

Move slow and listen. Try to find a hardwood ridge. The Acorns are gone, but they are stored close by and the squirrels will come and go. Learn to hear them move, bark, and chew. You can hear a squirrel chewing a good ways off on a quiet day. Wind is bad. Very cold is bad IMO. If it's really cold, try mid day. If its warm try morning and evening. The most comfortable time for you is also comfortable for them. Look for nesting trees, hollow cavities they use too.
