I've been wanting to float the section of Jacob's Fork River that flows around our club. I knew it was going to be a long float, but I had no idea it would be 6 hours. Probably half of that was paddling. Glad I did it, won't do it again.
Put in at Old Shelby Rd. Good flow of water for this time of year, but we have had rain recently.
Lots of small river fish. Caught a sucker on a hopper. Lots of sunfish, a few red eye bass, and my first small mouth bass on a fly rod. Fished with my 6'5" 2 wt today since I knew the fish would be small. It handled the hopper dropper combo fine and was small enough to not hang out the kayak too much.
Couple river shots, including some of the rain. Had 2 thunder storms come through that drove me off the river for a bit. The last one I was really paddling to try and get to the truck. I got things packed up and got in the truck just as a nasty line of thunderstorms came through.
I also found out the leak in my boat is a bit larger than I thought. Time to see if I can track it down and fix it. I had to stop 4 times to dump water out of the boat. My yak may be on it's last legs.
Saw a Red Tail Hawk, Blue Herron, Osprey, and had a Kingfisher follow me down the river and watched it fish. Couple of ducks too. Had a deer come in snorting at me so I started snorting back, got it pretty riled up till it finally ran off.
It was a good day, but a long one. Probably headed up with the kids to float the New River on Friday. Gonna take my spinning rod for that one.
