Looking for the authentic big city Cali experience but don't want to go out west? Boy do I have the place for you!

They are about to build a 50,000 sq ft homeless shelter that allows pets in Buncombe County. With medical staff on hand. Wondering if we are going to be paying for bum dog vaccinations and food in addition to homeless people’s medical bills and food.

I. Hate. This. Place.

I seriously might start calling animal control on homeless people with dogs. You can’t legally have dogs in public that don’t have their shots, right?

The article seems to indicate they pretty much aren't.
Yes I read that , but to be fair they probably don’t really know what to do. I cannot imagine they have dealt with this before. What I mean is how folks will react after time has gone by and bad things start happening- theft and petty crime , drugs activity will likely spike

I'm 100% okay with my tax dollars going towards pet vaccinations.

The people? They could dump them into a vat of phosphoric acid.

I am fine to pay for the dogs to be taken from the vagrants and vaccinated and put up for adoption at a no kill shelter. I am not ok paying for some homeless junkies selfish need for a dog when they can’t even take care of themselves.

There is a pretty trashy looking homeless camp right off of I40 in Raleigh. You can see it heading east in the woods around the airport. I’ve seen them in a few other places to.

Well they need to build a 100k building, because it will bring you homeless drug addicts from everywhere. This is probably in good faith to help by some good hearted people ,but they are justifying this lifestyle for drug addicts.

A small number of these aren't drug addicts, but largely it just how it is.

That's fair. I do feel like any bums with capacity to love an animal even in their deepest dregs are probably the only bums worth sparing.

I dont know this spot, but it's gotten overwhelming how many encampments there are around. Winston, in particular, they're popping up all over the place. Often it's just a small clearing with LOTS of trash everywhere.
There are places in WS to assist people, they choose to trash the landscape instead

They are already here from everywhere. And it is not being done by people in good faith. It’s being done by people who actively enable these people and make more of them flock here. Without the homeless problem, they wouldn’t have jobs and large grants to pay their large salaries.

Could always give the a room at all the empty jails and prisons. Not as prisoners just guests.😂 I hear New York and several other states have plenty of empty ones

Just wondering how many of these "un-housed" people are illegals?

I have some empathy for people that wind up on the short end of the stick through no fault of their own, but as a society we've let the entire 'homeless' thing get way out of hand with the druggies, mentally unstable, and just generally bum types.

I actually feel worse for the 'pets', yes I know I'm a sucker and a soft touch.

*Lived out of my car once. Don't want to do that again so totally don't understand the YouTube "Van/Car Life" crowd.

It looks a lot more orderly and neat than the bartertown type encampments I saw in CA. A LA city official told me that the average lifespan of an encampment denizen was 18 months. Can you imagine the lifestyle and squalor that would kill a person in 18 months?

Most illegals I've known actually work for a living.
Maybe we could ship one druggie to Mexico for every illegal that comes over?

Not in stokes county clink. Or atleast wasn't no room last time I had to visit several years back. They was 3 people in each single person cell. First one in got the bed and rest on the floor curled around the toilet/sink combo. I was only there for the weekend. I went through a license check where sheriff decided to run my revolver and it came back stolen. I had to wait till court Monday to prove I had bought it legally from my dad who had his paperwork from where he bought it legally at a Greensboro gunshow. Case was dismissed. And to stay on topic last time I passed by university Pkwy in winston-salem headed north on 52 there was a encampment right beside highway past university exit all you could see was tents and trash

Good thing you had a bill of sale

We went to Home Depot in Winston. I noticed a bunch of trash in the wooded area beside the parking lot. Then I saw the tents.
Since then, I've spotted several encampments around the area. The trash is always the first sign.
There are so many in visible places, you have to wonder how many found good hiding places.

Involves a lot of drugs and/or alcohol.

Also a bunch in the woods behind Waffle House. Corner of Hanes Mall Blvd and Jonestown. Usually a dozen or so tents/tarps.

There are, or were, a couple tents in the grass at the I 85 and Graham St. exit in Charlotte. I don’t feel safe with a pistol, knife, SBR and a 9,000 pound truck there, how in the hell can you be in a tent?

I have zero faith in the county officials to do a thing about this. Not unless they have something to gain by it.
