A new .45....maybe.

I have not met @Millie ftf. But from what I know, Billie just nailed it!
He really did! He's a smart man, but like he said, I have to do what I think I should. Nobody ever said I was smart. Having a decent IQ # doesn't make a person smart in all things, I guess.
I can be funny, however, and I seem to be entertaining. Good enough.

First of all: I didn't buy the Rami, and I did carry it until a week ago, when it seemed like it might be a better idea to carry a .45, just in case. Maybe I was paranoid, I don't care.

I actually much prefer heavier guns to shoot, but the .45 is huge for a carry gun, hence my post about finding one a little smaller and more concealable. I've wanted to carry a .45 for a good while, anyway.
Also, I didn't shoot the Glocks nearly as well as I do 1911s. (Which in my newbie-shooter case might not mean a lot, but any advantage I can get, I want, and if I shoot a 1911 better than I did my 2 Glocks, I'm inclined to go with that. I could be wrong, but it doesn't feel like it to me.)
You’re far from a newbie at this point. As much as you have shot you should be ready for Special Forces deployment.

@John Travis can correct me if I am wrong, but I think I heard him comment that the Combat Commander is what JMB would have designed if the Army hadn't insisted on a 5" barrel.

I've never heard of problems inherent to the Commander, unlike the shorter barreled 1911 variants.

Funny guy! lol.
As much as I've shot, I should be a lot better at it, but it is what it is.....

I've shot a few & never seen those problems in the Enhanced & Custom Shop Officers Models. The Enhanced 1992 model I carry is flawless in close to 1000 rds since I let @BatteryOaksBilly friend do a tune up & convert it to what a 1911 should be.

I don't remember saying that, but if he'd had a free hand, he'd have probably made it a 6-inch.

While the Commander-length pistol is about as short as you can go without the slide mass becoming a potential problem point, even the Commanders have a narrower window for reliability because of the reduced runup to the magazine. Any variation from the original specs opens the door a crack for functional issues. When they took it past Commander size, they opened the door...a little wider.

I have had 3 Defender size 1911s, all without difficulty. Both Colt and Sig have worked out the short barrel 1911 several years ago. The reported problematic 1911s shorter than the Commander are really old news.

I carry a Citadel CS (rock Island ) 1911 it has been just as reliable as my full size 1911s with the proper ammo

@Millie hasn't yet come to the conclusion tha she needs 2 guns. One to take to the range to shoot 300 rounds through at a time.[40+ ounces] and then the same gun that is a Half Pound lighter [32 ounces] . Yesterday she had a full size 1911 that she enjoyed shooting. I let her hold the Same gun, full size with an aluminum frame. One to shoot and one to carry. She wants a gun that is super light, easily concealable that she can shoot 250 rounds through at a time comfortably. I have tried to explain the 2 gun concept and got a Yeah But. Years ago a man told me you need 2 motorcycle seats. One that looks great and one that rides great. Same with the gun.

It’s too easy for women to use a carry bag/holster combo and have the ability to carry a Desert Eagle if they choose to do so. Wife has one that we use when going swanky around town. I do the shooting while she does the carrying and passing of extra magazines. A lady government agent I met carried in this fashion and surprised me with her ability to shoot without having to draw and at the same time the handgun was concealed.

She wants a gun that is super light,
I beg to differ. I don't like super light guns! (Remember the nasty Taurus?)
I don't mind the weight of my .45 so much, but the slide is way too long, and pokes me in the leg when I sit.

I got to shoot and carry around Curt's .45, and sit and chat, and that thing was wonderful in every way! Perfect length to be non-pokey. Thanks for bringing it for me to try, Pumpkin. It was good to see you!

I'll be shooting another .45 that length Wednesday, thanks to another forum member, and I'll keep trying to get my hands on as many as I can with the shorter barrel. Not in a massive hurry to make the change.

I can't afford to have two guns in .45......it's as simple as that. If I could, I probably would, though.

I was going to make a smart alek comment about a woman wanting a shorter barrel that doesn't bit her in the leg but I should probably not say such things in a public forum.

Should I?;)

I may be the only one who doesnt really see a problem here...or at least any more problem than 99% of gun guys have. We are >always< tweaking with stuff, messing with stuff, and wanting more out of our EDC. For me, a perfect EDC would be:

Looks like a CZ
Size of a J frame
Capacity of at least 15
Lip balm container in the grip
Weights around 12 ounces loaded
Extendable stock integrated into frame

Its honestly why most of us end up with a passel of firearms, one to each fit multiple different events and needs...I have a church gun, an EDC gun, some range toys, "bump in the night" guns. Guns be like a set of golf clubs...most are purpose built and can be used in different scenarios, but often there is a "better" tool for each individual situation.

Probably not! I mentioned a few things about that yesterday, they just slipped out.

Very sexy.
I'd never be able to spend that much on a gun. I didn't even get to the part about barrel length and weight loaded.
Way too rich for my budget....

pfft $1250 is too much for that beautiful beast? You are wanting a .45 and you shoot a lot. That is an expensive hobby... I spend way more on ammo then guns. You need to get out there and get a part time job just to pay for your gun habit or go the begging route and hold out a sign that says "Will work for .45 ACP!". Maybe then you can afford a nice gun.

I thought I said in my original thing that I wasn't looking to buy, but to perhaps do a trade at some point. I better go look at that, see if I need to edit it.
Nice pics, though.

Never said it was "too much" just that it's too much for ME to afford.
This thread is exactly why @Geezer and I spent our own money and time to buy guns and ammo for folks on a tight budget. We found out that the SCCY and Taurus Spectrum were bullet proof. Going 1,200 rounds without even cleaning with flawless functioning. @Millie still doesn't understand that a comfortable/concealable hand gun is usually not conducive to going to the range and shooting 300 rounds through. When she goes she shoots A lot....doesn't mean she learns A lot, just shoots A lot. I told her that doing the same Bad thing over and over won't ever become a Good thing, no matter how long you do it. She needs a comfortable/concealable gun to carry, with enough firing to determine it is functional, then relegate it to Carry. She likes big Heavy guns because she is recoil shy. She is recoil shy because she started off on her own, got some not so good instruction and then added a certain amount of Hard Headedness. We love her here and we accept her as she accepts us, with all our foyables. She like some others lately have been hit with strange, life changing events. We need to all remember, she is a single person with all of life's costs that never go away. If I could get her to have the following arsenal she would be fixed for shooting and carrying.
For shooting...a sa/da auto .22 of any brand that is known for reliability
For carrying...a used G43 or SCCY
For Kitchen gun....what she has already

These choices would lock her in to reliable guns that wouldn't break the bank.

She wants a 1911 45...expensive to run..like she want to run. 300 rounds at a time.
I gave her one once to keep as long as she wanted to shoot it. She went out and bought one. Kinda defeated the purpose.

She is a good person, she just does whatever she wants to even After pages of info from all the CFFrs. So when she starts with this kind of thing, accept that no amount of your experience or expertise is going to sway her. AND showing her pictures of expensive firearms is only pissing her off...

Truth^^^^

She needs a workhorse for practice/range time and a reliable carry gun for carry situations.

In the 1970's those were called "Detonics" and they were not cheap, but were one in the same..

Today they are called "Glocks"....

Learning proper recoil management on a .45 is a steep hill to climb ( and expensive )....

On demand, She consistently shot baseball sized groups with my STI 2011 9mm at Battery Oaks. Read the book... What is that telling us???

( Love Ya Millie...! )
