The kid on top of the podium is my cousin's kid's kid. (Makes me feel old because my cousin's daughter was an infant last time I saw her)
The other two are twin brothers. The looks on the twins faces is fear as the look toward their father (said to have behaved like an ars). The top kid is just happy. He'd be happy if he got 2nd too.

They look like really young kids to be grappling. I would have been afraid too!

And if my parents made me wear those shorts on stage I would have wet myself.

WTF is wrong with parents ther days? Do kids have to be adults at age 3 now? Let them live and play a little.

That type of behavior seems to be the negative flip side of everyone gets a participation trophy. The overbearing, win at all costs, nothing less then perfection is a failure, live vicariously mentality. It’s equally unhealthy, especially for the kids.

Why is the girl holding a sword at a grappling tourney? Now I know how she got to the top of the podium

FWIW my son is super competitive. So much so that I spend a lot of time backing him off the ledge.

I have never gotten on him about failure I’ve had to get on him multiple times about being too hard on himself. He expects perfection from himself in anything he does.

As long as I can keep him from committing suicide when he fails it will serve him well.

His uncle, former Army Airborne, came close to physically restraining the dad because he was such an aggressive arshole. Saud the Cobra Kai sensei was an accurate comparison. No mercy.

True, but it's a hell of a way to get to work & you really don't want all those crazies loose in the rest of the Army.

Up in the northeast kids start young wrestling. They are much better than the south in the sport. You don’t play basketball in PA and New Jersey. You wrestle. Most kids would demoralize Carolina kids in the sport. Never too young to start whipping some arse. Put your kids in a real sport where they become men. Some kids play with balls, wrestlers have balls.

Rolling around the ground with another man means you weren't well armed enough. Or something else...

Think I’ll stay. Born and always lived in North Carolina. Just the truth and sometimes the truth hurts. Ask my son who has two state North Carolina championship rings what PA kids are like. Beast.

I see nothing wrong with him being hard on himself for "failing", he will make a great adult knowing that he will have to do his damn best at everything......

At an early age my grandfather taught us the importance of keeping something handy in case a bully needed to be dealt with. I was allways partial to a tobacco stick.

yeah. I taught my kids how to shoot young, in case some aggressive a-hole decides he wants to grapple to the death. Guess that's what I get being raised in the South ;)
