Is there a method for members to delete the threads they have created?

If so, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to delete a thread.

I just posted a thread with an audio recording that would not work on the forum, but I couldn’t figure out how to delete it.

No big deal. Just wondering if I’m missing something and also if members can’t delete or close their own threads, why that’s not possible.

Thanks but it’s not happening for me. I can’t access that feature on my phone or my desktop.

If I click on “More Options” nothing happens. If I click on “Edit” another screen pops up with the title of the thread but no way to delete it.

I hate to sound like a complete imbecile, especially since I’ve been a member of three related forums going back 12 years ago.

My apologies if I’m missing something so obvious.

If there are no posts other than your original, won’t deleting your post delete the thread?

I don’t think you can delete the first post in a thread. You can edit it down to nothing, but the thread survives ad infinitum. Into eternity. Forever. Till the cows come home. Till the chickens come home to roost. Till your kids clean up their rooms.

You could always click Report and ask for it to get deleted. Or send a PM to which Staff member you see online. (They’re listed down the page below the forums)

@Qball, Try going to the forum menu and select “your threads.” Select the thread you want to delete. Then up at the top, next to the “watch tab” there will be three dots. Select it and see if one of the options is to delete it.

In XF when you delete the first post, it deletes the entire thread, which is likely why this function is restricted from the user perspective. Awhile back I looked into creating a script that would extract the first post and then iteratively modify the indexing to enable removing the first post without nuking the thread, but never completed it beyond a manual attempt. It worked, but I can’t say that it wouldn’t have side effects. Under the hood there are a lot of cross linked SQL tables that make up XF.

Thanks for the help and suggestions and thanks to the staff member who deleted that thread.

The preview button is your friend.

I think that’s what was confusing me. I remembered being able to do that in the past.

I think way back when we were CSF and running on vbulletin you could at least lock your own thread, maybe even nuke it
