Anyone know of a source for A2 upper receivers ? I've looked all over, most are either out of stock or ridiculously priced. Delton has an A2 style upper but it is perpetually out of stock and H&R hasn't started producing them yet. Gunbroker doesn't allow me to do business with them so that route is out. New production is fine, not looking to build some period correct clone, just want to build a handy little carbine with an A2 upper.

I don't think there is any new production. Right now it seems if you want a carry handle upper (A1 or A2), you have to stalk the secondary market or be in the right place/right time to purchase an H&R A1 from PSA.

As a stripped unit or complete?

If you want just the stripped upper you are basically SOL unless you are willing to pay stupid money on gafs/ee/gb or find someone willing to sell one at a fair price.

AFAIK Over the last decade only two companies have made carry handle forgeings in any significant numbers. Anchor Harvey and Nodak Spud.

NDS was bought out by JJE (owners of PSA) and production was shut down to move the company to South Carolina.

As for AH I've got nothing but rumors about large(10,000+) minimum order numbers.

When NDS shut down the supply dried up pretty quickly and now people are paying stupid money for them now.

I suspect demand isn't nearly what people think it is. Just because a small number of people are willing to pay exorbitant amounts for one doesn't mean theres enough demand for manufacturers to order the forgings and change machines over to mill them.

If you want a complete upper Fulton is build to order with a 4 to 6 week lead time. Its expensive but not a bad price for a match quality professionally built upper.

Per the PSA industry page on arfcom, H&R has plans for an A2 upper receiver and barreled receivers but who knows how long that will take. I guess I’ll just keep watching the BST here and other places and find one. I agree that the demand really isn’t high, just nerds like me and clone builders are about the only people really interested in an A2 upper.

I think Rock River still makes A2 uppers, but I haven't looked at their web site in a while.

****nevermind, on indefinite backorder

I used to have good luck looking at the equipment exchange on ar15.com. They still do pop up on occasion, normally for around 125-200 but sometimes I’ve seen them lower but they go quick

I remember buying them used around 2014-2016 period for sub $80 but gone are those days. Everyone is into cloning now

I’ve got one M16A2 clone complete with KAC M5 rail and Surefire 951 just like we had in the arms room when I was still in the Army
