I have a PSA Freedom upper with one of their 13.5 M-Lok free float handguards. The finish on the handguard is ever so slightly abrasive and seems to hold on to dead skin whenever I grab hold of it. I remember reading somewhere that this can be remedied by applying something to the surface. I just can't remember what it is. I think it was Hoppes or Remoil or something similar.

Is it the edges of the Mlok slots? I have a Centurion that is like that and my plan is BCM Mlok rail covers for it. Or is it actually the flat surfaces of the handguard?

It’s just the flat surfaces.

Some YHM stuff is notorious for that. I never figured out how to fix it because i ended up selling them and going smaller diameter. Someone had my old handguards and they have my skin on them. Kinda neat o_O

Magpul makes Mlok rail covers that should solve the problem. They come in sets of 6, so you may need 2 packages to cover 5-6 inches of rail.

Can you wet sand them?

Maybe I worded the title wrong. The handguard isn’t abrasive to the point where it is hurting or bothering me. It’s just when I grab the handguard I leave a small amount of dead skin behind. Not sure if that’s any better of an explanation.

No, that's about how I understood it. Which is why I think a quick wet sanding with some 1500 or so grit sand paper would fix it.

I may give that a try. It’s not a big deal really. Just an annoyance.

While I am still back in the picatinny ways and don’t own a M-lok rail I was recently asked by a coworker who just bought a new M-lok rail what he could do because it got a little slippery if he was not wearing gloves and his hands sweated. I am not sure since all my stuff has been cheese grater picatinny rails with ladder covers on them and might have a couple mags testing M-lok stuff but that’s it’s. Just how smooth do you want it? I actually see a benefit in a surface with a little grip on the M-lok & KeyMod smoother rails.

Krylon it.
Less permanent wax it.
Both will level the surface to an extent.

Maybe try a finger stop or handstop.

Never noticed a slippery feel with my mlok guards. But I do put a stop on them for support hand. Usually the Arisaka finger stop, which doesn't add a bunch of bulk and weight out there.
