So I had some tooth pain over the weekend and went to the dentist this morning. Turns out had an abscess and needed a root canal. Wow that hurts your mouth and wallet! Anyways I'm off to rest and take some 800mg Ibuprofen.

I’m headed to the dentist Wednesday for a filling. I hate it for you brother, nothing worse than a tooth ache. Not sure it works with an abscess but clove oil has worked wonders for my tooth aches. Also there’s a packet you can buy at Walgreens called the red cross tooth ache medication or something like that if you want to try to kill the pain. It less than $10 and I keep it at the house just incase. Anyways good luck and hope you get it fixed pretty quick.

Pull that bitch and go for the hockey player look.

Instead of getting a root canal, have an implant.

I actually work with a guy at the city that was a pro hockey player. He’s missing the same tooth I had done. He got an implant for it last year. I couldn’t help but laugh when I’d see him without it. Lol

It’s near the front

How close is “near the front”? I had one that was near the front that was bothering me. My aunt works at my dentist and tried to convince me that it was too close to the front and to have a root canal instead of having it pulled. When I told her I’d rather scatter my brains across the parking lot than wait another week to have that tooth worked on, we pulled it.

Yeah, mine was top right one after my k9. Right there you can only really tell when I smile that I’ve got one missing. Any closer to the front and I probably wouldn’t have been quite so dramatic lol

Just had some teeth pulled two weeks ago. The price was crazy. Of course it was out of network too, so had to pay out of pocket up front. Only have one in-network dentist close to where I live and he is not an oral surgeon. Wife does not drive much so had to go local. Have found an in-network Periodontist about 40 miles away and went for my first appointment the other day and I liked her so that will work. Have two more visits with them then back to general dentist for root canal on a front tooth.

One of my front teeth had an abscessed on it. Got that bitch pulled and now the pressure I was feelin in my sinuses went away also.

I was gonna get an implant then about choked when they told me how much. Still 400 later I got a partial

My headaches are gone. But you are right the implant prices are crazy. I am getting root canal on front tooth and then will get partials for the side. I do not have 3k to 5 k per tooth for implants

Same here, on the right. I get me toof in two weeks. I noticed and lanced the abscess 9/2017 from a root canal job 25 years ago.

Me wif is thrilled, she's tired of this look for the last 3+ months. I had an implant installed, >$3K :(

My mom used to call my dad 'Toothless' when they were alive, she had all her teeth
and he had about 4 on the bottom.

About 20 years ago, my uncle was installing brick pavers for the front porch, he did not bother to tell my aunt what he was doing or block the doorway,
she went out the front door to get the mail and fell face first onto the bricks. She developed an infection and had to have all 32 teeth pulled.
She made my uncle pay for implants, $65,000 worth. To this day she never forgave him for that, although she never told him that.
He had a history of doing dumb things, he would not repair the carpet, she ended up falling and breaking her hip.

If the root canal procedure is successful, the tooth can last a lifetime as long as it is not damaged or develops a cavity.

I had a chipped molar. Got a crown. Then bad tooth ache, same molar. Had root canal done, shiny new crown too. Then the doc found decay under the crown. Had to pull the tooth. Implant was the way to go they say. So a few grands later, got me a new tooth. 3 years later, bone loss around the implant discovered. So the implant had to be pulled. Now I'm one tooth less and don't even want to think how much $$$ gone. Doc said do you want another implant? Noooooooo You could hear me scream a mile away I was headed out toward the door....

Good Lord, y'all get screwed hard on price. You don't even want to know how littler we charge dentists for things like flippers, crowns, partials, etc. Suffice it to say there are double and triple digit mark ups.
So we can get our crowns from you and cut out the middle man? lol ( if it only worked like that)

Holy crap. I hope my 2 crowns never fail. Had to get two in one year. Sux because my dental only covers a max of $1500 a year so I was $1800 out of pocket. One dental visits 6 months apart, filling from my teens caused two upper back molars to crack.

My wife says she is royalty because she has six gold crowns.
It was over 12 years before she saw a dentist when I met her.
Her molars had stress cracks.

I may have to get impants later in life. My two front and lower teeth are crowns. Chipped/busted with the first game of hockey I played with a half sheild. Puck rode up my stick and right in to my mouth.

Legit question..how bad did it the implant hurt? I mean, drilling, tapping the jaw bone for a stud just screams "Let me sit on a spike naked instead"

They only gave me a local, and it only hurt my wallet. The hardest part was being able to picture what was happening, drill, installing the stud with a mini torque wrench & feeling it bind & pop. You can see the hollow Ti stud, the gum holding tooth base, and the small screw holding it in.

Lidocaine works well, better then Novocaine.
Carbocain used for pregnant patients.
How about Dentist in a Box?

That's what I"m saying, lol I'm always drilling/milling/tapping on my machine and the though of my head being where the work piece is and what's happening makes me just bonkers

I just consider the body an intricate machine... and the more I hold still, the sooner it'll be over.

With the cost of dental work over here, if you need anything major done it is cheaper to fly somewhere in Eastern Europe, stay a couple of weeks get your work done and fly back. The dental offices are as high tech and clean as any over here, plus the dentist I go to in Bucharest is hot as hell.
Panoramic X-ray Here $500.00 There $3.00
Root canal with cap Here $3000-$4000 There $75.00
Deep Cleaning Here $200-$300 There $20
Cosmetic filling Here $400-$500 There $25
Implants Here Thousands There Hundreds

That is the new profit center, used to be bonding and tooth whitening, now implants.
No money in fillings since sealants were introduced to the kids in grade school.
Both our daughters have not a single cavity but did have ortho and all wisdom teeth removed.

Dang, just walked out the dentist office and the trying to convince me to put in an implant...
I needed three after having three removed three years ago. Bought a used truck with the money instead.
