I guess the notion that "everything's bigger in Texas" also applies to boxes.

I placed an order over the weekend for 500 rounds of ammo from Academy. It arrived on my doorstep today. I thought, "that's a pretty big box for 500 rounds." Picked it up and thought it was far too light, too. Opened it and found out why:

No complaints because shipping was free and surprisingly fast, but still! Just seems like a waste. I checked my email and the order is coming in two more shipments. Hope the boxes are just as big.

They are notorious for doing this. I’ve ordered .22LR from them a few times and have had 1,000 rounds show up in as many as 7 boxes. But, as you said, it’s fast and free so no complaints on my part!

Mine from Academy.

There was a trail of rounds from the FedEx truck to my front door.

Actually, I realized the rounds had dropped out when I reviewed the video of the delivery. The driver went back and picked up all he could find, put them in the torn box and taped it up. To be safe, I walked outside and discovered one on the lawn that the mower definitely would have "found".

I've not done any mail order through them, but have bought a bunch of stuff at their store. Had issues twice, and ended up with a better deal after the manager got involved. I give the Bexley Square store a solid 4 stars. Would be 5 except you can't trust the computer. "Less than 3 left" is code for forget it.

Actually, when I complained about the packaging, they made it right.

So right I'd order again if I knew I'd get the same deal. :)

They refunded 20% of the total purchase. It means 9mm cost me about what we pay for .22 today (assuming Rem stays in business and pays the rebate).

They did a similar thing for me a couple years back. I placed a decently sized/priced order for some ammo that had a manufacturer's rebate, and Academy charged my card. Then they refunded me and said they had been out of stock. This happened after the rebate window had closed.

I contacted Academy corporate after dealing with an idiot CSR, and said I could have bought the ammo anywhere, but I liked Academy and preferred to give them my business. Long story short, they offered the ammo to me when it was back in stock, and gave me a better deal than what the original rebate was for. They also threw in a gift card ($25 or $50, can't remember). Very nice service, and they still get a lot of my business.
