Advice 4 AK Noob

Nice looking rifle @Sniffler

For the AK gurus along a similar line:

Galil ACE in 7.62x39...other than having an ugly handguard...school me on why I would need something else/different other than hording purposes?

I'm not an AK guru but the Galil is a keeper.

You can never have too many guns though.

I mean...

Hoarding; collecting; believing variety is the spice of life; variability for your different shooting purposes; enjoying the distinctive features and quirks among different nations' AK variants; interest in the "platform" as a whole; boredom/lack of interest in the AR; interest in 7.62x39 and/or 5.45x39; interest in a particular nation's AK (Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, China, Yugoslavia, etc.); introducing new shooters or shooters new to the AK to different options; relative affordability and availability of guns and ammunition (this was true a few years ago; not so much right now); addiction lol...

Hell, I know AK enthusiasts who served in our military and got into these guns because it's what our enemies used against them.

Point is, "need" is wholly subjective and there's no single answer to your question. Why do you need more than one gun at all? Why do you need 1,000 rounds of ammo vs. a box or two? Why do you need a Galil ACE to begin with (you seriously do need to replace that awful stock handguard though :p)? My answers would be pretty much all of the above and more minus the military service. And I love my ACE, too. I guess my question would be why would you not want more than one?

My new rifle came Wednesday and I picked it up yesterday. I hope to get it cleaned up and ready to shoot tomorrow. So far I'm pleased.

Eager to hear how this thing works for you. I have a lead on one locally for a good price. Have you thoroughly gone over all the rivets? Anything stand out so far as a potential red flag? They seem to have quite a few minor nits, but some new owners are reporting pretty flawless guns. Very curious for a range report after you run a few rounds through yours.

Rivets are all flush. There's a little spot on the left side of the fsb where the finish is gone but no biggie. Everything is tight and straight. I'm tearing it apart today and will get back to you if I find anything.
In a time of $700-$800 WASRs this thing is a steal. You should buy that one before it disappears. So far Zastava USA is taking care of people's problems quickly.
