How? I dunno. Why? I dunno. Nonetheless I somehow stumbled on a chance to purchase some, which was out of stock less than 12 hours after purchase.

When it arrived last week, I was really kinda shocked. Last time I found some for sale at a reasonable price was 2018. I have been beating the bushes with renewed vigor for nearly two years now, and this was the first time I felt confident enough to make a purchase. I half expected to receive some variety of 40 grainers. Not feeling 100% confident, I did a middle of the road play and only bought 1500. When a few hours later the email arrived saying it had shipped, and not that there was an error with the inventory system, as I went to make another order, yep, outta stock. Got the email alerts set up but nothing so far.....

What was interesting though was the method of packaging and the info on the labels.

First off it came in little flat squarish shaped cardboard box, 1000rds, 20 boxes of 50, not the old 500 rd bricks. 5 x 5 boxes, packed 2 deep.

The info that I think would be of interest to ya'll follows:

-BOX 1 LABEL-

Job: 663556

Date: 06-Dic-23

Case: 0006

Lot: 01HU219

-BOX 2 LABEL-

Job: 663556

Date: 07-Dic-23

Case: 0096

Lot: 01HU219

Anyway, it's out there, good luck.

Feel free to report any other sightings out there (not the $30+ per 50ct options though if ya don't mind, I am well aware of those).

The ammo seems to be in high demand, as it sold out quickly after your purchase, indicating the ongoing challenges of finding .22 LR ammo at reasonable prices. You're open to hearing about other sightings of this ammo, but you're not interested in options priced at $30+ per 50 rounds.
It's good to know that some ammo is available, and hopefully, more will become accessible in the future. Thank you for sharing your experience and the details about the packaging and labeling of the Aguila Sniper Subsonic SSS .22 LR ammo.

Interesting. I had heard Aguila discontinued that years ago. Guess they did another run.

Well, at a less attractive price, it is now available via KIR ammo

I can confirm the inventory numbers do decline with the amount one has purchased. They ought to have plenty in stock for a while, at least until the other masochists discover it's available.

Half my justification for ordering was to gather more production/lot data, which I will post here if ya'll's interested......

Takin one for the team here......

We got a bunch of it in an estate a couple months ago and sold all of it for $10 a box to a dealer.

A couple of months ago and that news would have made me tear up.

It was a couple months ago. We bought another load of it from another estate right after that. Guess I waited too long to get it on Gunbroker. lol

Yes I am afraid you have missed my "price gouging" window of opportunity.

But if you trip across some more in the future, I'll go 7 bucks a box all day long. Don't wait too long tho, if regular production ever kicks in, I may hold out for reasonable prices.

UPDATE:

Dammit all to....Those bastards at Optics Planet have just informed me my "never-gonna-happen" SSS back order is finally being sent, after I just plunked down some serious change buying some from KIR at a higher price.

Website still shows it as back-ordered tho. Stuff in stock, never is, stuff that is in stock.....

*Heard in the voice of an old English butler*
You mistake dear sir… was to get involved with the duplicitous shysters at Optics Planet.

I think I'm still safe at $10 a box at shows. :) That is still cheaper than Optics Planet's backorder price.

Yeah I can't argue with your logic there, but there are storm clouds on the horizon.

KIR started out 2 days ago with 789 boxes available at 12.50 per 50rds.
They're down to 762. Only a desperate soul, or apparently two, would be willing to pay that much.

The random trickle is picking up tho. An ammoseek search done just now shows two more contenders.

Selwayarmory.com shows 50 boxes available at 11.99 per 50rds.

But then.....drumroll..........

midwestgunworks.com, who doesn't show a stock number, is selling them for 8.99 per 50rds.

Presumably they have had at more than 20 boxes in stock, as it appears they still have them in stock.

Opticsplanet is still showing on backorder, which may still be true, as even if they have said mine are on the way..... well, we will see.

And with that folks, I am officially topped off on this particular ammo. For a very. Long. Time.

I now have a much simpler grocery list for this month. Ramen.

Like they say, man can't live on bread alone.
