Aimpoint Duty RDS

I believe the price point.

Seems like PRO:COMP::RDS:T2.
Other than a 2mm dot, what differentiates it from the T-2?
Yep, about $300 of differentiation...I'm not sure what that translates to in regards to quality.

Looks to be about 0.8oz heavier than a T-2. Battery life is 30k on this, 50k on T-2. Not sure if those attributes are worth $300 or not.

Has anyone priced these with the LE/First Responder/Veteran discount form Aimpoint? Looks interesting, would sure prefer something that size/weight over a Pro on an AR pistol.

I’ve a T-1 & 2. The T-2’s glass is lighter in color, not quite as blue. I can see better in low light. I wonder if this one’s clearer.

Have not. What is it, 10%? Seems to be the going rate. I usually don't mess with the discounts, I tend to find deals better than the discounted rate most times.

Only place I have a discount setup is Aero because they'll stack discounts sometimes.

The discount is 10% which only drops it $50. Most other optic companies do a better discount but typically the best discounts come from buying them used.

MSRP of $499, so that means hopefully we will regularly see them for $399 once they are in heavy distribution. I honestly think its Aimpoint's competition for the MRO.

Will use micro T1/T2 mounts too, but is SLIGHTLY different as to how it will cowitness with those mounts. @Flipside1212 sent me a good video from TRex Arms showing the height comparison using the favorite micro mounts.

Everywhere I see has them for $499, they're currently available. So ya, hoping to see $400-450ish on the reg.

I almost bought an MRO for my AK and held off. Glad I did. Saves having to buy a separate mounting option for the different footprint.

The Duty RDS is hard to beat. It isn’t quite as clear as a T2 but it is WAY better than the PRO. The dot it’s self is what impresses me. It is clear even with astigmatisms. Most red dots look like a cluster of grapes to me but this one is one small dot with a little bit of starburst around it. Edit: fixed the carnal issue.

That sounds terrifying.

That's really good to hear. I've got an astigmatism as well and have the same issue. It's not a huge problem at CQB distances but it's very difficult to be precise with shots past that without my glasses. I really have to spend a lot of time working with that dot to know where the shots will end up...obviously the issue goes away with my glasses but I can't always guarantee I will have them, so I try to practice without them as well.

Is the RDS even clearer than any prisms you've used?

I didn’t have great luck with prisms because of a bad “star burst” type effect. Other than a Meprolight M-21 I have not used a clearer reticle.

Anyone else end up getting one of these? I have quite a few PA and HS dots in my pile of optics but am considering adding this to my M92. I got a 403R with the firearm when I bought it but the housing isn't low enough to cowitness irons even on an Ultimak. Swapped it with a PA SLx Advanced micro which is perfect, but I like my bottom bitches to have quality dots.

Probably be cheaper to go through DSG out of Texas…they offer a MIL/FR discount and they don’t charge tax, at least, they haven’t on anything I’ve ordered from them.

I submitted my request for the DSG discount pricing. I'm assuming it's 10%. I'll see how long I can hold off. I'd rather have a used one for $400 than pay $450+ s/t.

I have a DSG account. It’s $479 with the discount.

Ya I just had it added to mine. That's not impressive, but it doesn't look like they charge tax. I went as far as the finalization screen and it wasn't ever added.

Might be worth the $50 over buying used for $425 or whatever. I haven't seen any pop up in the marketplaces.

After doing some research, I really think this would sit too high on my M92. I've currently got a PA MD-20 mounted on an ADM low QD mount on my dustcover rail, and that's just barely low enough. Doesn't even offer lower 1/3 on the Ultimak radiator.

I ended up putting a WTB ad up for an H1/T1.

Aimpoint ACRO would be pretty sweet on an AK too.

It's definitely an option I've considered. Not sure how I'd like the 3.25moa dot. Could be a non issue.

The ACRO is about $100 less than a new T2, but I would consider it less versatile if I didn't care for it on the AK. At least with the T2 I can just throw it on a lower 1/3 mount and put it on an AR.

I've never tried a reflex on a carbine. Do you like them?

Had a RMR on an AR for a bit. It was ok, but I like a larger window a bit better. figured the acro might be able to get you real low to the rail on that AK

It's a sexy looking optic, but I'm hesitant, also due to the window size. This MD-20 is prob as small as I'd like to go. Wish I had a spare 507c or something to try out.

If I can't find a used T1 at a decent price I'll likely just pickup the T2 at Europtic.

Picked up one of these brand new, but secondhand for $430 the other day. I just got back from sighting it in.

This thing will be the death of the PRO. I really like it. I’ve had a pair of T2s in the past, but I personally see no reason to shell out the extra cash for a T2 with this on the market. I originally bought an MRO for new my DD V7 SLW but didn’t realize the Duty was available. I quickly sold my new MRO and bought up the first Duty I found for what I thought was a reasonable price.

Mine doesn’t have any blue tint. I actually like the push button brightness controls. I’m not the biggest fan of the torx windage and elevation settings, but it’s really a set it and forget it. The only way to get off your zero would be to use the torx wrench. I’m a fan of the mount too. It’s essentially a QD mount if you keep the same windage/elevation torx wrench in your pistol grip. You can have it off in seconds.

Here it is on my DD:
