I am going back to a red dot sight and was going to get the pro but am looking at the new Duty sight also. Only thing is i don't know how small the duty sight is. I have had a Trijicon mro before and was fine with it but if the duty is smaller i will go with the pro. I looked thru a t2 size aimpoint the other day and i thought it was a hair to small but if the duty is a better sight i’ll go with it
Thanks

It's the same window as the T2...for a 1x sight, there is really no noticeable difference between a 20mm and 30mm. You may perceive it to be a difference, but I'm pretty sure it's just in the head.

I'm a huge fan of the Pro, but I may pickup a Duty at some point. It just depends on the application. Duty sits higher in a low mount than my Pro does, so for stuff with low-combs (AK for ex) it would not be good.

Ok thanks
I am leaning towards the pro and was also looking at the mro but seems people like the pro more after reading online last night
Eotech looks nice but seems like i read about alot more issues with them but i do like the looks of them
Thanks

But you're right that there should be no difference in brightness because you're not "gathering" light in a 1x like you are in a magnified.

There is no reason to buy an eotech. They're heavy, expensive, and don't offer much unless you want a flip to side magnifier or you have astigmatism (in which case get a prism sight instead of an eotech). Although, if you want to LARP with a GWoT rifle.

Lol I get what you're saying, it's "larger" but you don't necessarily gain a substantial advantage with the increased window size. I have zero problem going from a micro dot to a 30mm dot. I have and use both.

As stated by @DrScaryGuy - unless you're using a magnifier, I'd opt for the Aimpoint.

Don't overlook the weight difference. The Pro is pretty chunky. Website says Duty is just 5.7oz with the mount.
For reference, my H1 wears a Tango Down cover (for lens caps) and sits in a Scalarworks LEAP mount...weighs 4.9 oz all told .

I like the EOTech. I dig the circle/dot and with my borderline astigmatism it works better than the other red dots. The problems have long since been addressed. There's no good reason not to have one other than you just like something other than it.

But, Aimpoint is good, too.

Battery life? That would be one of my main gripes.

I've never looked through one (an Eotech), but I absolutely have an astigmatism and the circle dots are wasted on me. It literally just becomes a 32moa dot.

I think the worse the stigmatism, the more it blends. I wish Aimpoint would do a circle-dot. Trijicon does with a MRO but it be pricey.

The battery life thing was never a thing for me. I just chang them out once, twice a year and I'm okay. Even in the service I never let an optic stay on all the time, I would turn it off when I wasn't using it. For some people they are okay with turning it on and leaving it on, and for that, the Aimpoint beats EOTech hands down.

This is good advice. I have both. IMO the Eotech is quicker and has some cool ranging features if those will help you. Nice versatile reticle. I love my Aimpoint and think it’s a crisper dot and more accurate for me. I think there is a place for both in the safe.

Ordered an Aimpoint Duty RDS today from Midway. They are in stock and running a 10% off qualifying optics promo w/ free shipping. $480 OTD

🤗🤗

Let us know! Having owned a pro before, I think you made the right move. The pro is a great red dot but is severely dated in my opinion.

The PRO made sense when you could pick them up for around $325 a few years ago. Now that they seems to stay up above $400, not so much.

I still run a PRO on 2 rifles and they are just fine, but if I were buying new I'd go RDS.

I have 2 Pro’s. One in a Larue mount and the other in an ADM. I’ll never get rid of them. I think they are great all around other than size. Crisp dot, tough, & good FOV. If I’m pleased with this new Aimpoint, I’ll definitely get at least one more.

I dread the day my eyes start disagreeing with the dot (starburst). I’ll be starting over and moving to Prisms.

Having also had both of those mounts, I'm curious what your thoughts are on them.

Love them both.

Larue:
Great return to zero, built like a tank, waterproof battery compartment on the bottom

ADM:
Cantilever version.
No frills, but affordable when on sale
QD adjustment is toolless (Larue needs the wrench they send with mount)
No battery compartment but I added the extended compartment for the cover.

I may look for a QD mount for the new Aimpoint. My only concern for all the different options is the lightweight versions that look like 4 toothpick legs. I wouldn’t want it to take a hit and possibly bend or break. The block versions may be only a couple ounces heavier, but I would feel better about their durability.

Got the Aimpoint mounted on a Scalarworks mount. This is my first mount from them and I REALLY like it. The model is LEAP/10 and is specifically for the Duty RDS. Everything is so far so good. I am going to try to get out and shoot one day next week.

Those Scalarworks mounts are the best. I have one for an Aimpoint H1. Lightweight and durable.
