RS regulate is great but not cheap. Midwest has some nice stuff too.

Rs regulate is the way! You can get setup to run a t2 footprint optic like the Romeo 5 directly. If you don’t go with them I’d go with an attero t2 mount. The attero is definitely the most compact and it co witnesses

Is the Romeo 5 the same pattern as a T1? This might be the one….
It sure is! T1 and t2 is the same footprint but if you want the Midwest full pics tinny I have one that I have no use for that I was going to post for sale.

The Ruskie made NPZ mount is full picatinny and built like a brick.. outhouse. And its less than $100. All the other options posted are good too. I personally find the MI mounts to be rough on the eyes. Getting your hands on an RS Regulate will require some effort last I checked.

Ok..which one is this? The forward mount?
And do they have anything that puts the pictinny rail on top of the gun so you don't have to have that second optic holding piece?

This is an RS Regulate forward bias base and a 30mm mount with an aimpoint pro.
I don't think they have such as you've described, but consider the advantage of a two piece system. If the optic is not centered left to right on the gun, the two piece system allows you to center the optic.

I love my setup but if I were to start over, I’d put a low power variable on this one.

This setup is a keeper for me. It’s dialed in and ready to rock.
If I were starting fresh, I would have gone for a full rail from rs regulate and then some scope rings to mount an LPVO. I had looked at some of the offerings from Primary Arms with the 7.62x39 bdc and they were quite nice.
The other thing I would have looked more closely were some of the prism low power scopes. Those would be nice. The only thing I don’t like about them is how high they tend to sit on the gun, maybe some of the newer ones have better mounting options.

Unless it's a Russian or other eastern bloc optic that comes pre-mounted (Kobra, Obzor, PK, etc.), a big +1 for RS Regulate. I've owned and used just about every aftermarket brand available for AK optics but keep returning to RS. It's simply the best option.
@DirtySCREW, besides their website, be sure to follow RS Regulate on Instagram. They do a good job of announcing which batches of mounts are being finished and at what times, along with what retailers will have them in stock. The RS folks run a lean machine and rarely do production overruns. That philosophy, along with the recent surge in AK popularity on Reddit, has put these mounts and handguards in hella high demand.

What kinds of shooting do you do with this thing? And what distances?
Look through the AK photos thread and see if anything stands out - I have quite a few models and a variety of optics on nearly all of them. Really been digging the RDS + 3x magnifier setups lately - have Holosun and EOTECH combos that both work great. Either fits on a RS Regulate AKR 1913 upper mount.
Trijicon MRO is also great on the AK if you want rugged but low-profile.
Primary Arms makes some awesome prism optics and I love the ACSS reticle.
Or go OG and nab a Russian or similar eastern bloc optic. Check out russianoptics.net for a wonderfully detailed rabbit hole of the various offerings. PK-A Venezuela is a solid and basic red dot equipped with its own mount.
Ive got the master mount ones for my 106's. I had a MI installed (same one pictured above), but didnt need the full rail.
