All New 2018 Honda Goldwing

I think they did a good job with it over previous models, but I’m not tempted to get rid of my Electra Glide for one and I’m in the younger crowd the article talks about Honda trying to target with the redesign. Only reason I have the Electra Glide is it’s the bike my girlfriend picked for her comfort. Said she wouldn’t be interested in a Honda of any kind. She likes the exhaust and vibration of our Harley.

Looks like they have done a pretty good job. Although it needs a larger fuel tank for better range, imo. I'll definitely give it a look but I wouldn't buy a new one. I'd wait and get a low mileage used one from 2019 after they get the first year model bugs out. It's still not the all new ST I've been hoping for but I guess it's going to be the only option we'll get in the sport touring world from Honda.

I like it. I always hated their tendency to cover the motor but this one shows it off. +1
Styling is much better. +1
Like the frame and front fork. +1
All the electronic gadgetry..the things that work engine and suspension management I like, the heated this and GPS that I could live without.
But maybe I'm not the one to ask. I've always liked Goldwings. Ride one in these here mountains and you'd be startled at what these bad boys will do. They handle freakin great...way better than their size would indicate. Search Yellow Wing/Deals Gap if you wanna see someone who can ride the hell out of one. Beware the old man on a Goldwing, that ain't his first bike.

Of all the GW's though, this one is still my favorite.

That's Yellow Wolf on the GW at Deals Gap. That 'wing he's riding doesn't have a stock GW suspension. But he can still ride the snot out of it.

I've done the electric work for Ohlins USA for 11 years. Raced against them boys many a times too.
I've put their stuff on many of my bikes. Farking expensive as hell, worth every penny. Good thing I can trade services since I'm way too poor to actually buy the stuff.
Suspension is where it's at in the mountains. Forget all that motor bling and sing, since most motors have way more power than we can use here anyway, and put some high end suspenders on there and no-one can touch you.

What not to do st Deals Gap.

That corner shown at :30 and 2:15...everybody eats it there. Mainly cause it's intensely decreasing radius and folks get in too hot, but also because the camera guys set up there since everyone crashes and people see them and think oh look I'm so cool getting mah pic and then they crash.
The supermoto guys..they're supposed to crash. If your leathers aren't all rashed-up you got no 'creds.

All the local guys I know, including me, avoid the dragon like the plague. It's squidly as hell and there's TN cops everywhere. The only time we ever go is when someone is visiting and they just have to ride the dragon. Ok. (groan)

We only go to the store and get a cold drink and see what kind of crazy is there and then turn around and go ride roads that they don't know about. We used to ride it a good bit back in the early '90's. Now it's just too crazy with all the car clubs and racer wannabes

I like the slightly slimmer profile and the TFT display. Lots of GW 1800's have 150k or more ,they are very reliable.

The 2018 BMW R1200GSA has a TFT display now , I never thought they would improve those very hard to read instruments.

I keep getting older and slower and they keep getting lighter and sportier. I feel like I am on a collision course with a goldwing.

I will never pay over $24,000 for a motorcycle...EVER. Perfectly satisfied at over 50 years old on my $3000 used 1200 sportster that is my daily commute. No reason at all, ever, to pay AT MOST $10k for a motorcycle. Harley included. Wait, no, please go buy the twenty thousand dollar motorcycles and let them sit in your garage for ten years and then sell them to me almost brand new for chump change. Thanks!

$24K? My buddy paid $42K for his CVO Road Glide.

And this is why they are in trouble with the old money dying every day, they are loosing customers. You can buy 2 new high quality, better feature motorcycles for what 1 CVO cost.

I like HD motorcycles, but they are going to have to make BIG changes. I really just like motorcycles in general, most brands any types.

I'm with you. For forty grand, I could put together a stable of 4 or 5 or even 6 really nice bikes.

I'm 2nd generation scooter trash & bleed black & orange, but I'll never buy a new Harley again. Like Goofyfoot said earlier, too many pristine, 10-20 y/o garage queens available for pennies on the dollar.

He has a VFR, so he's on an old man's bike too.
VFR's kick ass. That's another sleeper.

I'd spend 18 grand on a KTM Super Duke tomorrow. I'm sure everyone here understands that would be legit.
Since I won't have 18 grand tomorrow, next-est bike thing will probably be some sort of performance atv.

I'm batshit crazy, but I'm neither rich nor stupid. Bought my '02 Super Glide in '13, in pristine condition with < 16K miles for half of what it cost new.

Norman Reedus rode it for his "reality tv" show. Someone at Deal's Gap says "yippy look like that guy from Walking Dead!"

That's a Valkyrie, not a GW. I have one of the older Valkyries, a 98. Love it. One of my favorite bikes. I'm not a big fan of those fenders and exhaust on that model. 20170726_072600.jpg 20171003_143816.jpg

Yeah, I can't believe they downsized both of those. My ST holds 7.7 gallons of gas and sometimes out west you wonder if you're going to find a station before all of that runs out! I'm still hoping that Honda comes out with an all new ST but I'm not holding my breath. I think the new wing is as close as they get to a new ST.

sadly the "new technology" the have developed , like the electric windshield and front suspension , seem borrowed from my 2002 BMW

I think they are indeed coming, and likely this cool "cafe" version, too.

I was thinking about an Indian Scout Bobber for a second bike, but that new Z900RS is effing hawt. I've always had a thing for Kawis since my first street bike in '86- a '77 KZ650 & even tho my old beast of a '05 ZRX1200R did its damnedest to kill me 'bout every time I rode it, it was a friggin' rush. The ZRX was straight up WAY too much bike for my riding skills (& my inner juvenile delinquent), but with a claimed 110hp & 72ft/lbs & tuned for low end & midrange power, the Z900RS ought to be wicked fun, without being so brutally fast.

Honda has had an electric windshield on the ST since '02 in Europe and '03 in the US.
