Am I alone in not liking the LPVO thing?

My only LPVO is a 1.5-4 Leupold Firedot VXR on my AR10. I like it well enough and it works. I've had better luck with it than others.
But generally I'll take a fixed 3 to power.

I ran a Leupold 1.5-4x on an AR at the one and only 3 Gun match I ever shot about ten years ago. One stage where we had to shoot through the window of a van, through the van, to targets on the other side I was too tall to squat well enough to shoot easily and the window was too high to take a knee.

I. Could. Not. Get. a sight picture in that awkward stance. It spooked me from using an optic like than on a defense rifle, which is all they are to me, so I’ve just run red/green dots ever since.

I can shoot it out to 200 yards which is far as I ever plan to.

Agreed. I have mostly dots and Eotech’s, but one LPVO. It’s a 1-4 Steiner so not too big and heavy. But it doesn‘t make me much better until I get beyond 200 yards. Which in the burbs and mountains is likely rare.

One thing that an LPVO does well at closer ranges is target identification. When you are looking at urban terrain, there are lots of places to hide. The 6 or 8 power really helps.
