Ambulance to RV

I Googled "4x4 ambulance conversion" and found a ton of enviable DIY project pics. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

Ok I might have bought a 94 Ford 4x4 ambulance...7.3 diesel, auto, 78,000.

Now when I take ownership, I foresee a RV/off-road monster with the comforts of home.....pics when I start.

Any ideals?
Are all cabinets including sink still intact? That will make things easier.

The Expedition Portal has a ton of threads from people doing ambulance conversions. Some of it is the drive around the world type stuff.

Well worth signing up as the place is a little hard to navigate without a log-in.

Huge amount of info there. Here's are plan for a 4runner build. The ambulance idea was a thought, but this will end up being the minions first vehicle. "Old and slow but will go anywhere"

Duh. Lol

Seriously, I've been to some spots where a kayak on top of my suburban was a challenge. Which makes things no fun
Well buttercup, what's your other option? Lol

Roof rack, and a side rack - move between them as needed?

Now you're just making stuff up. Lol

Am-bu-lance thread

A couple of stray thoughts from what I have read in the past.. None of this is hard fact but seems to be a constant theme around the US,

Insurance and registration can be an issue.. It was built as a commercial vehicle and some states DMVs will not change that because of the VIN, similar issue with insurance companies, regardless of how it is or can be registered some or most will require/charge commercial rates.

Shouldn't be a problem, others have done it here local(other sold ex-rescue fire trucks) the last one th department sold is running around here as a zombie rescue truck!!!!!

I have always thought that having a diesel 4x4 van would be frigging awesome.

Never thought about going to ambulance route. That would actually make turning it into a viable off-road badass easier I would think since all the storage and drawers etc are already in place.

Can't wait for the pics.

Tagged because, well, this is very cool. Look forward to following your project.

In my desert racing days in SoCal I always dreamed of converting one of those double-decker buses to a motor home.

Subscribed for pics later!
Sounds like a sick project

You can bust all the cabinetry out and build what you want. They "refurb" those boxes multiple times. I cant remember which one they are selling, but most have an inverter, and high amp alternator already which is nice for what you are looking for.

I had a friend who bought an air force 4wd ambulance but he stripped it down and made a bad ass hunting truck with it.

First thing I have to fix is the smoking at start up.....a real mosquito killer!!!! I think the aftermarket turbo ( was a natural aspirated engine early 94 before powerstroke) is leaking oil in the intake and causing my blue smoke (thank goodness no white smoke).

Congrats on the purchase!
Looking forward to the build thread!

Will you pull the turbo or just fix/replace?
