Yep. If he pulls that one off, then we will all wish we had bought more at current prices. a 50% excise tax at the manufacturer level will turn into much more than 50% by the time it hits retail pricing.
Not if’n the math I lurned in grahamer skule stil wurks.

Let’s say 9 ball now costs 30 cents at the factory and retails for 60 (30 x 2). A 50% tax would add another 15 cents, bringing the factory selling price to 45 cents. With the same markup, that round would now be retailed at 90 cents. In both cases, the tax represented 1/3 of the selling price. Naturally, while the percentage of tax is the same, in absolute terms, consumers would end up paying 30 cents more thanks to a tax of 15 cents paid by the producer. And retailers’ gross profits will have gone from 30 to 45 cents.

Of course, sales tax on top of the excise tax would make this a happy event for state and local taxing authorities.

Anyway, I think competition from Cheaper than Dirt will help keep prices low. 🤓

Our distributor told us yesterday that the availability of 9mm and 233/556 is going to be less and the prices much higher than they are even now. For the next several months.

If you have not already purchased, you have the choice of paying too much, or not having any. If you find 9mm for even $12/box, BUY IT! I paid $24/box for 45 ball last week - and was happy to find some.

If the tragic election outcome - by fraud - stands - things are not going to get better. They are going to get worse. Regards 18DAI

I think this will be compounded by panic buying. If you need it buy it but now is not the time to stack it deep.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. The retail price will go up by more than the initial 50% tax collected. You illustrated exactly what I was saying, but actually said it in a clear and understandable way. 😀
