An unusual act of journalism

Just waiting for the 3D ammo files, they will be so upset that their heads will explode.

People are dumb.
If someone wants to In The Line of Fire it and it blows up in their hands, I will not have any sympathy.

It’s still more of a principles issue. That and as the technology continues to evolve, as they’re already start to work with metal, the materials issue will be overcome. In the end the control freaks will lose, they know it, and it’s why they’re so upset.

What I don’t understand about the whole hoopla surrounding 3D printed guns, is that uneducated and uninformed people say “they are untraceable”
But you can always just get an 80% lower and finish it yourself...
Or a Polymer 80...
The bogeyman they are claiming to fear has already been here for a while, and guess what...
Nothing happened....

And that goes a long way to refuting both their irrational fear about govco controlling who purchases a gun and their holy grail of tracing the ownership of a weapon used to commit a crime, which I’d also like to see them do with one of the serialized counterfeit ones.

This whole 3D printing business is pure fear-based emotional hysteria. Facts and logic are really not useful for countering fear-based hysteria. I think it would be more effective to re-frame this as a first amendment issue and stop pushing the “you don’t have your facts right” angle.

These digital files are plans. Just the same as if they were printed on rolls of paper, they are blueprints of machine parts. They impart no expertise on anyone. If you buy plans for a house, do you have a house? No. And what happens when we ban plans? What we’re really talking about is government control of exchange of information, and nobody wants that on the right or the left.
