this is another heirloom, its in very bad need of a new recoil pad, the original is as hard as concrete

The case hardened receiver is the shiznat.
Gorgeous.

Because they don't make recoil tampons.

I have to be honest and say that while I was posting that I thought of my daughters. I have one that is very sensitive and I could see her using a recoil pad on a 30-30. If he kept her in the woods, I'd gladly put it on.

I like older rounds myself. For deer hunting in the NC woods 45-70, 35rem and 30-30 is all you'll ever need.

Before Free-Dum group ruined Marlin/H&R I wish I had took them up on the 'get a barrel for your Handi' program. My boys have a cased hardened single shot H*R and would have been prime candidates for one of these.

The way reality went, they both have their own gun storage, rifle, shotgun, and 22. And 4wd. lol

You're probably right about how awesome they are but I still don't see many. Ive seen some 28s on the shelf but not many 16s. 99 percent are 12, 20,and 410.

I'm always on the looking for another 16 ga. I'm currently down to 3 but haven't been able to shoot any of them much this year since baby #3 showed up. If you ask me to shoot clays or go bird hunting there is no question I'll have a 16ga in my hand. The trick is finding one that is built on a true 16ga frame and isn't just a 12ga with a smaller hole in the barrel as is the case with most current 16s. Go back 50-60 years and they had their own frame and handled better then a 12.

I dig that break action .30-30 & would love an old Savage 340.

I've got an old Savage 16ga pump with an old Poly-Choke on it. Need to have a gunsmith check it out, as the barrel's an odd length & I have no effing clue how that choke works.

My dad had a 30-30, .12 gauge shingle shot that was bought for him as a kid. Not in the best shape (some very very light rusting) so I was like 7-8 years old and decided to clean it. I took the only sandpaper I could find at the house and "cleaned" it up for him. Not pretty.

I've got a short threaded .30-30 barrel for my Contender SBR. I don't like shooting it with a pistol grip on there. The folding stock is better. Best is with my heavy SWR Omega 30 hanging of the barrel of it. I've only been shooting factory round nose ammo through it so far. Looking forward to trying out some modern pointed bullets for it when my stash of factory stuff runs out.

I have the same gun and have really enjoyed loading for and shooting it. If you do reload, the single-shots open up a whole new world of bullet choices in .308. I put a nice little Bushnell on top of mine and hope to hunt with it this season.

IMR 3031 is tits for 30-30 spitzers.

For deer hunting in the NC woods 45-70,

Is this for when you get 4 of them in a line and want to take them all with a single shot?

Just busting your chops, it is surely plenty of gun for a deer.

Well with the right bullet it won't destroy the meat like 270, 7mag, 300 win mag. How much different is it from a 45cal muzzle loader with 60gr charge?
