Another gun range shooting, this one in Spring Lake

Does the NRA or any other organization track these things? It would be nice to study them, and try to identify the top reasons for ND's, accidents or negligence. Obviously most are some kind of human error, but if a large % are a certain platform, activity or place on the range, maybe we can reduce these occurences.

I see where you are going here, and it's a good idea, but this one was a suicide. Why someone decided to go to a range to kill himself instead of out in the woods somewhere i don't understand.

Really hate to hear stuff like this.

I've been to this place before. Usually stop in on my way through Fayetteville on HWY 24. If I recall correctly, this place had its own reality show some years ago.

I missed the suicide part. That obviously is a whole different thing.

If I had to guess it was a weapon rented at the range this explaining going there. Will be interesting to see if that's the case.

Yeah, I wondered if that was what happened. I guess we'll find out.

It's a shame that some people get to a point in their lives that they think life is no longer worth living. You never know what's going on in someone's head. A real shame.

It always makes you think, what if someone had held the door open, or smiled, even made small talk. Could that have changed the outcome? The friends and family have to be really going through it, I couldn't imagine the heartache.

Hate for the people that were there too

You truly never do. Could be the co-worker beside you laughing at your jokes, all I can say is be very observant of those your are in contact with.

Something to consider to help us swallow this bitter pill. Suicides are often planned well in advance. Then the suicidee gets to enjoy a slice of their life "painfree" for a period of time, determined in advance by them. My best friend from 12-15 hung himself at 18 on Christmas day from a tree house we had made when we were 13-14.

Poor kid, and at such a young age. Especially on Christmas Day, a time that's supposed to be joyous and spent with family and loved ones.

My old range had a policy in place that if you wamted to rent a gun there had to be 2 people because they had so many problems with people coming to the range, renting a gun and offing theirselves. If they knew you no problem renting (as I would shoot all the guns I couldn't afford) Sad thing is it still happened another time, the friend that was there (as the 2nd person) had no clue the person was gonna off theirselves. My buddy that used to work there had to deal 3 of these events.

They did, and thankfully it only ran one season. It was a huge piece of $hit.

At the risk of sounding crude, "Permanent solution to a temporary problem"......
And that's why I don't go to indoor ranges where the next guy is 3 feet away, I needs my space!!

When I talked with my friend who works there, he said that he and a co-worker ran over, he was guppy-breathing/agonal respirations. They were doing what they could but they knew the outcome (he is a former soldier, the co-worker is a retired SF 18D).

No matter how you slice it, it is tragic and awful.
