I'm sure most of you have had a moment or two like this. Happens here so much I have to try hard not to laugh out loud when the predictable results follow.

It is the continuation of do it cheap rather than do it right.
What came out of fab, as I told them, but they did not listen, doesn't meet spec. And that was just the specs they told me about. Had they told me all of the specs they wanted to meet, well......

I can imagine how the Ford supply chain manager felt when he was told to just accept a single source for a critical part of their most profitable vehicle because they got a better price. Oops.

I've been SMDH for 3 months at work. It's like a slow motion train wreck. Told one of the supervisors today I don't think we have one big problem, I think we have several dozen people who don't care to do their job right and we are all getting screwed because of it. 2 days in the last week I've had several hours added to my day because of things they have screwed up and I had to fix.

Yup. Purchasing made a big mistake at one place I worked and committed to a massive order of a part that was unsuitable. I got called in to a meeting and was asked to bless the use of said part, which I would not do. I got overridden by a junior manager who was good friends with the purchasing manager in a public display of how, "they were making a business management decision." When their boss returned, and he said, "hell no", I was the one who became persona non grata.

This type of 'decision making' is what gets people killed.

I was one of those purchasing guys for about 12 years. Problem I had was the lack of info from engineering.
.
I was one also and having a technical background I had to do the engineers work on specifications.
