Any chance the Hickory Gun Show might be cancelled due to hurricane?

I wouldn’t think as a result of local weather, but just the whole Florence event. Curious if anyone might have heard anything. Thanks

A chance? Of course there's a chance...

They are showing it going right over Hickory now. Could be lots of rain Sunday there.

Highly doubt it will be cancelled.

Anything is possible, I suppose, but show promoters are loathe to cancel for any reason. Shows are usually held regardless of weather. A few years ago, C&E (the promoter of the Hickory show) did not cancel a Fayetteville show in spite of a hurricane coming in with conditions in Fayetteville being arguably worse than anything predicted for Hickory this weekend.

I get it. That's part of the joke.

In case you've never seen the movie (or anybody else that has heard the phrase but didn't know the source):

:D

I got the joke and thought it was funny, but I'm in a pretty serious mood at the moment. Sorry. :(

I should have replied after I had a chance to unwind a bit this evening.

Regardless, everyone be careful. I'm staying home this weekend to tend to any potential problems. If no problems, I'll spend my time in the reloading shack.

Weekend forecast is looking better for Hickory, depending on whose you look at. Weather Underground has most of the rain Sunday and total rain between Saturday afternoon and Sunday being only about 2 inches. Way better than what was forecast even a day ago. Other than having to load out in rain on Sunday evening, we may not have a bad time at all.

Of course, storms can decide to do what they want. I don't think they look at the computer models. :D

I am from eastern North Carolina and set up at the Hickory show. As for me I am stating home.

Sounds like a smart idea, to me. I live in Hickory, so my biggest fear is being able to get in and out without getting my stuff soaked. If I were coming from a ways off, I would seriously consider cancelling.

I plan to be there Saturday. Taking the Volunteer Arms and maybe the AR Pistol with the Law Folder for a walk to sell or trade hopefully. See you there.

Setting up now. Several vendors have cancelled but there are still enough here to make a show. The Raleigh military show cancelled so some vendors that would have been there are coming here.

Hopefully the weather makes for good public attendance.

Thanks for the update cubrock. I'll see you tomorrow. Anyone interested in a Volunteer Arms 45 ACP carbine and/or possibly a AR 5.556 pistol with shockwave and Law folder, hit me up. Cash or trade....

Nice wide aisles today. J&C and Catawba Collectables made the trip worthwhile. Sorry I never made it back to the table @cubrock , but I had to get back to the house for a little storm prep.
lots of vendors?
how were the prices?

I made a walk through, plenty of room to move around and prices weren't bad on some things. I saw a few $400 ARs.
Cubrock was busy when I went by so I didn't get to say hello. I was looking to see if there was a CMR30 priced reasonably but I didn't see one at all.

You can tell a lot of dealers cancelled, but it is a decent showing given the circumstances. Had a decent crowd today, too.

Not very many, but I prefer less vendors because I get a little hot in crowds.

These guys were there, whom always sell me some quality mags and ammo:

Repent is there, who is probably going to be the closest competition with Backwoods. And of course, cubrock is there with a quarter mile of cool old surplus rifles and bizarre pistols.

It's mostly regulars otherwise. Larry the surplus guy, Frances the knife lady (and the other knife guy I can never recall the name of). The fella with all the old military arms and whatnot accessories that is always near cubrock, Defender Ammo (who is one of my new "I always buy something from" folks, great people and prices).

As far as prices, well, certainly better than 5 years ago. Some people like the old flipper guy with all the revolvers in original boxes that you will see at every local auction is there with his traveling museum, but I can always manage to find a deal. Pawn guys at the entrance had a S&W 915 for 275. That is a solid piece for that cash.

I'd pay $275 if it's in decent shape. If I'm understanding which guy is "Mr. Museum", @Have gun-will travel and I caught him (last WS show) offering a couple NIB guns that absolutely weren't.

Yeah, that S&W 915 tempted me greatly this morning. I have a couple mags for it in a box somewhere. If I find them tonight, I might be dangerous tomorrow.

Hope you don't find them!

Seriously, if it's gone, please let me know and you'll save me 3 hours of driving. ;)
