Ive got a 1848 baby dragoon thats been in the family since the California gold rush. Not a production . It needs a hand...literally. The hand is broken at the tip. Most likely it will need welding and dressing to size. Most of the "gunsmiths" Ive called have told me "as long as I can find one online I can get it to fit" . Yeah, its an 1848 baby dragoon. They dont exist online. There are italian reproductions but they only reproduce the outside. Totally different animal inside.

Anyone know of a good old school Colt worthy smith in the area?

Wow That is awesome.

Is it broken into and just needs putting back together or are you gonna need someone who can make a whole new piece? If you just need it welded I would think any machine shop with someone who is really good at tig welding could put it back together. I have a buddy who says he can weld a tape measure back together and it will still be accurate.

It's broken with the top half missing. It needs to be built up and fitted to the cylinder timing.

The '48 hand is different than the '49 hand . The '49 style hand is what the Italian clones use in their 48 reproductions. Been down that road
