My AC is not keeping up in the afternoons the guy I usually use can't get here until next week. Anyone local to Northern Davidson county who does HVAC service / Repair on the board? The system worked fine today until about 4pm then it couldn't cool the house off. Thermostat is set to 73 and is spot on until the afternoon when it gets as high as 78 and just keeps running. System is a Coleman and was put in about 5 years ago. The outside unit seems to be running fine and the fan motor doesn't seem overly hot.

I use Absolute Comfort in Jamestown. Probably like most, they have some good techs and some not quite good.

If you’re handy with tools try removing the outer shield from your condenser and cleaning it. A lot of times it will be restricted by a buildup of dust, pollen and other debris.

I have to hose mine off every couple of years.

Usually only requires a nut driver and screwdriver to remove.

Good Call Above..

Also check the indoor filter is good.
Other than that, it's going to take a set of gauges to see if it has enough gas in it to pull the heat out.

Hopefully not , if it is give me a shout .
Guy came out today. Unit was low on freon. He checked for visible signs of a leak and couldn't find any inside or out. 'he charged it up and I'm going to keep an eye on it. I will let you know if it goes back on the fritz. I'd of called you first but I figured it was too far to drive if it was something small.

If you don't have one, pickup an IR non contact temperature sensor gun, makes diagnostics easier,
check your inside air temp at the floor and ceiling grills and the high and low pressure copper lines on the condensor.
When you are low on refrigerant the line will ice up and that is easy to see at the condenser.

Bet you money its the evap coil leaking . Need to confirm soon while its in warranty

Just saw this and was going to say mine did the same thing last year and was low in freon. They did add some kind of stop leak and said it works about half the time. So far mine has been ok end of last summer and first of this one.

Stop leak is system killer. Eventually you will encounter a major problem especially if the system has to be opened for a part. Otherwise wouldn’t the manufacturer just add it during manufacturing?

Probably 90 percent of leaks are on indoor unit evaporators. The leak rate is higher during heat season. Evaporator parts are 5 years unless the warranty is completed digitally. It doesn’t cover a filter, copper, refrigerant, other needs, nor labor.

@jmccracken1214 see post #2. They had a reasonable offer when I replaced one of our original systems.

@jmccracken1214 also get a quote from Advanced Appliance in W-S. They’ve always treated me fairly after a number of them would lie through their teeth telling me I needed to buy a new system because “the law prohibits you from repairing an R22 system”. That was 10 years ago.

Some clown actually told you that?
