I was thinking it might not be a bad idea to break out of my normal weekday routine of lifting weights, banging supermodels, and snorting cocaine, and maybe try to find some people to shoot some clays with once or twice a month.

In the Charlotte area alone there are six great places to choose from:

Two in Polkton, NC:
https://ncsportingclays.com/
https://www.fourbranchesllc.com/

One in Norwood, NC:
https://www.forkstables.com/

One in Harmony, NC:
http://huntingcreekpreserves1.com/

One in Richburg, SC (with three distinct courses ranging from "absurdly easy" to "good luck, sucker"):
https://rockycreeksportingclays.com/

And one out in Rutherfordton, NC:
https://tryon.coth.com/page/cleghorngunclub#top

Anyone available/interested in putting together a group to shoot mid-week once or twice a month?

Well if I can find time between making millions in the day trading markets, padding my portfolio of expensive yachts and trading exotic sports trucks with world wide collectors I could be tempted to shoot some clay's with a couple of lower life types. I think I may have a gun somewhere around here but if I can't find it do you have anything I might could borrow for the short term??

I can put you in touch with Dr. Clement Okon of Nigeria. He is setting me up with $750k. Can't wait!!! It should have been in my bank last week but I'm patient...

I could do it depending on the days. My schedule is pretty flexible. Hunting creek is fairly close for me.

For you I would happily drive down to Academy and buy a new Yildiz, just to make sure you had a gun to shoot. :D

Somebody you know has a sweet Remington in the for sale section. ;)

How about tentatively shooting for the second week in Jan? Maybe Wed Jan 8th, weather permitting?

If you've never shot Sporting Clays but are interested, it's not hard to get started and there are only a few basic safety rules:

1) Eyes and ears must be on the entire time you are on the course (typically a few hours).
2) Pump and semiauto shotguns must have the action open at all times and be carried barrel-up.*
3) O/Us must be open at all times.*
4) Shells must be #7.5, 8, 8.5, or 9.**
5) When it's your turn to shoot, never load more than two shells.

*obviously not while shooting
**target loads are highly recommended; you're going to be shooting 100 rounds in a few hours and heavy loads will quickly become tedious

Other than that, the objective is just to be safe and have fun. Also to break some clays, but I wouldn't know much about that.

I went two years ago, first time out, I got 5 out of 50, had a blast. ;)

6) If you shoot Uncle Bill, he immediately reincarnates and slashes your tires in the parking lot and is waiting on you when you get home.

WHERE on the 8th??

So, admittedly, I have never shot sporting clays, only skeet. I currently have an ancient 20 gauge double barrel passed down through the family that's been my go to critter getter, and a single shot Stevens 301 turkey. Out of the two of these, I imagine the double barrel would be the best bet?

I might be in iffin it is on the north side of Charlotte. I refuse to go through that hell hole.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me!

I wanted to see the locations of the people that were interested first, and right now it looks like Harmony is the closest to their center of mass.

Having said that, if I could convince everyone to drive to Hyatt Farms in Polkton I think they would have a better time because Hyatt Farms is:

1) not absurdly easy, but easier than Harmony.
2) more compact, so nicer to walk.
3) not much further away from most of the people in this thread than Harmony.

I'd like to shoot as long as I can shoot my KSG and no one will complain at me :D

If we're not allowed to complain at you about that, then we'll just have to find something else to complain at you about.

Everything is shot in pairs; either report pairs or true pairs. So yeah, you want a shotgun that holds two shells.

I’ll bring my 12.5” 20ga and we’ll see who they fuss at more...

:D

I say shoot whatever makes you happy, as long as you are:

1) Safe.
2) Legal.
3) Safe.
4) Safe.
5) Following the rules.
6) Safe.
7) Safe.
8) Safe.
9) Willing to put up with crap from Bailey Boat for having the wrong gun.
10) Safe.

edit - this used to be a twelve item list, but items eleven and twelve were removed for brevity. They were 11) Safe and 12) Safe.

Although I will say, without a doubt, you will have more fun with a sporting gun.

Both Harmony and Hyatt Farms rent guns for a reasonable fee (as do almost all Sporting Clays courses).

Do you have a suggestion for another day?

Currently working the red days all others should be good.

I've hit clay's with an 18.5 bbl shotgun before, too just gotta aim more gooder lol

Ok, so, if you are interested in going please answer the following two questions:

1) Would Tue 1/7 work, with a weather alternate Thur 1/9?
2) Would you be willing to go to Hyatt Farms in Polkton and have more fun, or will you only go if it's at Hunting Creek Preserves in Harmony?

Once we all firm up the where and the when, I'll post a new and concise thread in the Meet-Ups forum. And then turn the whole thing over to Bailey Boat for him to run. :D

(He doesn't know it yet so please don't tell him.)

1. 75% sure. 100% one way or the other when I see the new schedule Friday.
2. Possibly Polkton. Definitely Harmony.

So far we have one "yes" and one "maybe". I'm not sure we've reached critical mass yet.
