My old Glenfield Squirrel Stock is giving me problems. It appears that the round is not feeding up properly from the tube into the breach. Round gets stuck feeding in the barrel or does not feed up at all. I have given everything good clean and lube. I have also replaced the main recoil spring. Does not happen on every round be enough to be a PITA.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the lifter spring. I'm assuming you've cleaned it all

That's what I was going to say. Or maybe the spring in the tube? Does it happen with a full or empty tube?

Can you change the spring in the tube? I think mine is weak. If I load more than 7 rounds it will not feed properly. Thanks.

Could be a weak lifter spring, or the spring in the tube may need a cleaning. Hard to say for sure without getting a good look at it.

lifter spring sounds reasonable. I will get one and see. Is there a way to get to the tube spring to clean it?

Thanks for all the good advice. I really love this little rifle.

Numrich has replacement tube springs, as well as schematics.

I just ordered a bunch of parts- buffer, recoil spring, sear, sear spring, L&R extractors, tube spring, etc. to restore my childhood '69 99M1.

If you do a search for Marlin Model 60 feeding issues you will find a lot of info. There are also many videos of various Marlin Model 60 parts replacements on the web.

I was having the same problem at the range one day. Brought it home to clean it up and realized the plastic recoil buffer was cracked. Probably due to my inexperience and cleaning it with Hoppes 9.

Biggest warning I have is find the instructions that show you how to zip tie the hammer spring. I didn't follow that the first time I had to tear down the action and it took 2 days of cussing and redneck engineering to get it back together, Did it the zip tie way the next time and it took about 15 minutes from start to finish.

Found some instructions: http://www.bwgriffin.com/marlin60/Marlin60b.pdf that uses a paperclip

I had a Glenfield model 75 (Marlin 60) that had problems... called Marlin... they thought I had a worn carrier, so they sent me a kit (more'n just a carrier) for free. That fixed it!

I am NOT any kind of expert. With that out of the way, I'll share what I think might be the problem . . . the feed block is worn out. The older feed blocks were of a two piece design. With use causing wear, the two pieces separate just enough, to cause feeding problems. With the new one piece feed throat, you will need a new style lifter and the newer style lifter spring. The newer style lifter spring, also serves as the ejector.

There are a few things to know in advance. You will have to file (grind, carefully) one of the "nubs" off the new style feed throat. Depending on the style of bolt you have, you may have to take some material off the new feed throat. That's no big deal. When re-assembling the lower action into your rifle, 1) be sure the hammer is cocked and 2) be sure the bolt is in the locked back position.

As has been said, Rimfire Central has a ton of information about Marlin (Glenfield) Model 60s.
