I am a big fan of the S&W 3rd gen pistols having used them on and off duty for almost 30 years. I started out with a 4506-1 and 4516 and went through a progression of others. 3913, 3914, 4513TSW and in "retirement" am currently carrying the very fine Chiefs Special 9mm and 45 (CS9/CS45).

I have picked up a large accumulation of them over the years and unlike many other types and brands of handgun, I have yet to have a bad one.

How about you? Which models do you own and shoot? Regards 18DAI

Sorry to disagree with you @18DAI but I have a contrarian point of view.

If those old Smith and Wesson pistols had been good products, the company would never have developed the wonderful new guns that weigh less, can be easily mass produced (almost spit out of a mold) and sold for next to nothing. Why anyone would want a heavy old gun, with outdated technology that's surely "used up" when they can have a brand new one for less money is completely beyond me.

To protect yourselves, I strongly recommend you not consider buying those almost useless "antiques". Further, as a generous and concerned member of this forum, I'll trade you new state-of-the-art firearms and lock your old ones away where they can do no harm.

:D

Roger that Jeppo. I see what you did there. ;)

We also have cases full of those new plastic wonder guns at the LGS which we cant get rid.....will be happy to trade for those used up 3rd gens. Regards 18DAI

WELCOME.

As you know, I am a relatively new 3rd gen fan. Will add more later. Glad you are here.

I will try to post some pics of a few of mine. The 4513TSW is my EDC - although over the past year it has largely been replaced by my CS45 and the CS9 pictured below. The 4513TSW is still my favorite handgun.

The PC 45CQB is a one of one prototype. It was used in a 2001 American Handgunner article about the forthcoming guns. Unlike the production models, it has lightening cuts on the slide. It is also a tack driver. Yes, I shot it twice as it was already fired a few hundred times - according to the article. Regards 18DAI

Congrats Jeppo! It looks brand new! Enjoy that fine nine! Best regards 18DAI

Coworker owned a 5906, I always liked using it, always wanted one, lucky me, few years ago Bud's had police trades, got one.

My first semi auto pistol was a 4013T, was stolen during a break-in and used in a homicide, can't get it back.

346ci I had one of those single stack 4013s back in the day. I picked it up at Arringtons. Formerly it belonged to the Chief of Police in Mt Airy. I sold it, along with my other 40s, to feed a divorce attorney. It was a nice gun.

While I have always carried full size and compact S&W 45s on and off duty, since I retired all my carryguns are 3rd gen value line guns. The CS9, CS45 and 457. They are accurate and reliable and keep the wear and tear off my older more expensive guns.

And they are easily replaced should there be an "unfortunate incident". ;)

The CS9 is the one I am currently carrying and shooting the most. 380 sized pistol with 9mm ballistics. After carrying much bigger and heavier guns all my life, it is almost like not having a gun on carrying the CS9. It is a joy to carry and shoot. Regards 18DAI

I had a rather large collection of them and sold all of them. Nothing wrong with them, just wanted something else.

Ya see? This is exactly why I love CFF. I learn something valuable every single day.

For a big part of my life, I've been under the impression the Chief of Police in Mt Airy was a revolver guy.

Who knew?

Love them. If I was able to keep/use a giant collection of range toys I'd love to have my 4506, 1006, 645, and 5906 back. Too heavy to carry and not the all-the-rage in competition.

Dude you have a DAO 3rd Gen S&W issue. LOL Is there a self help group in the area you can join. ;)

I just picked up a 4586 from a member here. Took it to the range for 100 rounds or so. That thing is a tack driver and the recoil is negligible for 45. So glad I sold a glock 45 to get this!

I figure I need at least one 45 caliber in case of a zombie apocalypse, and this will be the one I keep I think.

I took the 5943, 1086, and 4586. i've decided that every 9 mm range session should include a 10 mm warm up to remind me how little recoil a 9 mm has.

I'd like to obtain a 4506-1, 4516 and/or 4586.
