Ive had my 12LRP for a while now, and its far from factory.. but one thing Ive never been able to get how I like it, is the bolt.

I feel like the bolt lift should be lighter. Every rem.700 i mess with has a way lighter bolt lift and the bolt cycles smoother... What gives? My bolt is stainless and its smooth, but it drags or catches at times. Just feels a little rough at times when cycling. Ive got 700 ish rounds through this gun and its been the same since day one. Any ideas on a solution? My reg. savage 12 i had, had an even heavier bolt lift than this, but the bolt cycled smoother

Yeah. I think they are just like that, unfortunately. The two I’ve had have both been like that. If you really wanna feel sick about it, try out the bolt on something really nice like a BAT or Panda.

I have the budget Axis II in 308. Very accurate with handloads, but the bolt is heavy, as you describe.

For what I have into it, I can't really complain. The Boyds stock turned it into an animal.

Mine drags at times as well. If you get into the habit of pushing hard then it doesn't happen. Hoping it smooths out over time.

The regular Savage 12 is 2x harder to lift than my LRP. I'm guessing your axis is the same we the 12. But the lrp is lighter, but still noticeably heavier than a remington.

Mine drags when I push hard or fast. If I cycle it while holding with just 2 fingers, smooth as butter. I'm wondering if the cerakote is causing this. There are a few wear marks inside the action but I'm stumped on how 1 cycle can be smooth and 1 not lol

I have an Axis .308 (my hunting rifle), a model 10 Stealth BA .308, a model 11 vt .223 and a Mk II FV-SR .22 with a Boyds Tacticool stock. All four are great shooters. You can't beat them for accuracy, especially for the money.

I agree. This Savage has impressed even my gunsmith who builds customs . Very accurate considering it's a factory rifle

Yeah man, been looking at them for months. Never saw this site though! Ive been looking at the Nat Lambeth ones but havent been able to get ahold of him.

Ive also read a lot of people say they dont make much difference. For $15, i may try that though.
Made a huge difference in the model 10 that I put one in. After I could throw the bolt with a finger

Damn! This is the same one you ordered?

I call them today. May get the bolt handle they have too. It looks nice.
I ordered mine from Sharp Shooter Supply. They sell nothing but savage parts. But that was 9 or 10 years ago. I checked their website this morning and it doesn’t look like they’re carrying them anymore. It looked the same as the one in the link I posted. Very easy to install. All you need is an Allen wrench

I'll just throw this on a credit card. I bet it's got a smooth action.

Give Area 419 a call, Tell Jon that Dustin sent you.

Or

You can get a action, barrel and have Joel Pendercrafter (by Southpoint Mall in Durham) thread it/ Chamber it

Or

Call Gray at Swift Creek Rifle (right by me in Clayton). Tell him Dustin sent you.

I was joking man. Never would I drop that kind of cash on a rifle. Ive got a really good friend and fellow veteran that builds rifles. He's been trying to get me to do a custom for a long time now. I will some day.. or I might just buy a bergara lol.

Ive got so much money tied up in this savage. $980 for the rifle turned into 3000 or so real quick lol. I may sell the H&S stock and action off once i burn up my 6mm barrel and try the remington game. Maybe. I really do like the savage's even though they dont have near the support as the 700 footprint.

Cool deal. Its like the 357/ball bearing thing ive seen people do. The other lift kits are $45+. So for $55, i can get a stainless bolt handle and a lift kit from these guys!

Once you touch and run a aftermarket action...lord help you. I started build them to but only or my self (machining)

Got that in today, ordered a bolt handle with it... man, what a crock.

Doesnt make it any easier to lift, AT ALL. not an ounce. Then to top it off, the bolt handle doesnt not sit against that piece thats between the bolt handle and the action like the factory does, so it doesnt cycle like it should. Literally have to smack it to get it out of the rifle. Their site says they charge a $75 fee for any refund.. WTFFFFFFF I only paid $63.50. Will call him monday. This blows.

I’ve always considered fitting a bolt to my model 10 but I can’t justify the costs
