Any towing gurus in the house?

Since the highest possible capacity of one axle is 3500 pounds, barring some kind of wacky 8 lugged monster,

No disrespect intended but your statement above is incorrect. I have a couple of single axle trailers here on the farm with 5000 axle capacities.

Typically you can determine the rated axle capacity by counting the number of lug nuts/studs on each wheel. 5 lug axles are typically rated at 3,500 lbs, 6 lug axles are typically rated at 5,000 lbs and 8 lug axles are typically either 7000 or 7,500.

The real issue that the OP faces is not towing capacity, but braking capacity. Many 3,500 lb axles do not have brakes and depend upon the braking ability of the tow vehicle. In reduced traction conditions such as rain wet roads, that TACO will be very marginal with respect to safely stopping the combined load.

Excuse me while a crack another beer and read some more of this towing thread. Lol.

That was a far more a diplomatic response than I could muster. :)

I had my whole ride in to work to think about this thread. Thought of some real zingers.

I considered borrowing an excavator from Scsmith42 to keep digging. I do love to argue.

But this is just the internet.

But this isn't just the internet. This is CFF. I care about this place and the people here and what everyone here thinks of me in a way that's far beyond just "the internet." I don't want to let this go because I am emotionally invested in proving myself to people whose opinions I value even though we've never met and probably never will. To give an example, @Scsmith42 is a member whose history here of sharing knowledge as well as generous offers to help fellow members is one I respect and admire. Maybe I'm still fooling myself thinking this is just a misunderstanding and if I keep talking I'll change someone's mind.

Ultimately I have to decide if I'm investing my time wisely, and I am clearly not. Only one person came to this thread ready to be persuaded, and that's done now.

I'll take my bump here and try to rebuild my reputation elsewhere. Enjoy your day gentlemen.

Best post ever!

The biggest issue towing trailers with a V6, in my experience, is wind resistance. I had no issues towing a loaded flat trailer that weighed more than the amount allowed for my tacoma. But an empty trailer weighing half that amount with a big profile (like a camper) would cause my truck to moan, strain, eat gas and really have a hard time.

Thank you for the kind words!

I was remiss in mentioning that the rest of your post was very well stated.

Or can we find out if that wife has any sisters. A woman that buys you a truck is AWESOME

I am ecstatic! She didn't have to, but she did and that's one of the many things about her that I love.

As far as sisters goes, tho. And Lord knows I don't like to talk about someone, but the only thing my wife and her sister have in common is parents. And because of how different they are, not only physically, but mentally, I've questioned whether they have the same daddy. Lol.
