Was researching/shopping online for a 9mm Commander sized 1911, when I read that Bob Serva, former President of Dan Wesson had started Fusion Firearms and was now selling not only custom pistols, but also very high quality basic 1911s for a non-Dan Wesson price. Does qanaybody have any experience with one of their pistols? They also made and sell kits and parts. Fusion Firearms.

I’ve had the opportunity to shoot one. Limited to approximately 50 rounds though. I had no complaint and if I were looking for a 9mm 1911 they would defiantly be on the list for further consideration.

They are good for maybe 5000 rounds, and I speak from experience. Great shooters out of the box, but soft metal. I had this experience as well as a match director on here who had the identical experience with the Freedom series 1911.

All that said, if you don’t shoot that much, and plenty of people don’t, they are a good value comparatively speaking

They are solid. Good rep. Out of box ok, not sure about long-term use.

The story reminds me of the time when the former owners of Detonics sold out and started a new 1911 company in Burlington. They were making nice 1911s but way cost prohibitive for me. I don't think they lasted long.

And now they are off the list for further consideration. Thanks for the info Ash!

I was real happy with mine for about 4000 rounds. Later on I had some peening on the slide at the breech face, and the notch for the slide stop. And the ignition components, sear, hammer, and disconnector were also showing premature wear.

I was a real proponent of the gun because you couldn’t get another 1911 with checkered front strap and counter sunk slide stop anywhere for this price, but after putting some miles on it the wear was becoming really evident.

All that premature wear defeats the price point if you are have ti rebuild the gun after 4-5K.

A friend on here had to send his back twice at about the mileage I mentioned, and if I recall it still wasn’t right.

By comparison, I put the same mileage on a Springfield Range Officer. Also MIM parts, but they held up far better than the Fusion Freedom series.

I don’t want to slam a brand, but I handled a $3000 1911 they built. I’ve had $800 1911s with a better trigger. There was noticeable creep.

Bob Serva has build a Dan Wesson 1911 production A to Z. IMHO, they where the Best 1911s in money-quality comparison. Then sold factory to CZ. Now he start new production "Fusion". same quality. I have several his Dan Wesson 1911s. they all great

I hate to dispute this, but I have experience with both. I’ve met Bob and handled his custom offerings from Fusion. I don’t know why there was departure in quality, but it’s just not there. Granted, the Freedom series Fusion is a lower price point than a Wesson, but for the $800, or however much the Freedom series are now, I’d spend that money on a Springfield, or something else.

Just remembered I had to replace the extractor after two weeks. Just lost tension. I could have sent it back to them, but for forty bucks I decided to fit a Wilson Bulletproof. Ran great for several thousand rounds till I basically wore the gun out.

Appreciate your answers based on real experience. Guess it's a case of "if it seems to be true, it probably is."

there are stock production and semi-auto. you should compare apple to apple. I have both Springfield and DW. do not have Fusion...

I only disputed your statement because you appeared to conclude that because Bob Serva made Dan Wessons that his Fusions are of the same quality. In my experience they simply are not.

Not even his $3000 offerings that I handled standing in front of him.

Like @fieldgrade said, at that price range look at a Springfield. The Fusions will not hold up to much shooting. Mine hasn't exhibited any peening on the slide yet but the extractor lost it's tension around 500rds, the hammer started following around 2,000rds and a trip back to Fusion twice didn't remedy the problem. I replaced the factory trigger as it's bow was rough as a corn cob and that solved the hammer follow issue until today. At the IDPA match at Buccaneer today the hammer followed the slide home twice costing me time. The gun has right at 5,000rds thru it.

The ignition parts are MIM and there is nothing wrong with good MIM parts but the Fusion parts are not good quality and they are done after approximately 5,000rds.

You’ve been more than patient with that thing. Time to retire it.

We’ll look forward to January and that new Colt build.
