My Pard @BASIL and I were contemplating a little shootin contest...We would appreciate any input as to interest.
Firearm...any 22LR long gun
Sights....iron
Distance...300 yards
Targets... To Be Determined
Prizes.....Not a Damn Thing
The Point??...Braggin Rights
It would be on a Saturday, to be determined according to interest.
What say ye fine fellows?????

Shall I refer to you by your Given name here???
You may refer to me any dang way you please! You know that! lol.

I'd at least like to give this contest a go, after a little practice at that distance....if for no other reason than it should be a huge challenge for me. Also, it might provide all you fellers with a laugh! Win, win, I say!

The logistics of a 300 yard .22 shot are running through my head. I would think a bolt gun would have it all over a semi. And just trying to figure out the dope on the drop a .22 will have at that distance boggles my brain.

Makes me think of a line from Rustlers Rhapsody.
  • Colonel Ticonderoga : You missed! How could you miss?

Jud : Even with these sights we have a target a hundred yards away, maybe more, we've never fired these weapons before, there's a definite wind factor, AND we have a problem with the sun!

Colonel Ticonderoga : Just shoot, okay?

APPROXIMATION ... a .22lr 40gr standard velocity round has about a 9 foot drop ... and windage is a bitch.

So where do you aim? How far above the target?
(Teaching moment here, so tell me, please.)

With tangent irons or aperture target sites you can dial it in somewhat but with irons on the more common .22lr rifle irons of today you just kinda have to say “well the target is 24” high so I have to hold 4.5 times high”.

ETA: I’m not even sure I could dial up 300 yards on my Mossberg 44US-D’s aperture sights???

I dunno what the fine fellows say, but I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Um.

As long as it's not prone. I'm not going to ground at Battery Oaks again if I can help it!
