Here's what I need and I'm open to suggestions... As you all know, I'm building a tiny house. I have a 14" gas burner cooktop for the kitchen. It's a single burner but a 15k BTU one. I need a decent hood. I don't have room for a 30" hood. I have a 20" 12v RV hood, but it's crappy and not what I want really. Can't find anything in the 18-20" range in stainless that's not crap or obscenely expensive. I want quality, but this is a very niche item, especially in the US. So, I'm thinking build a hood box and put a motor/duct/ filter in it myself. I don't weld, or at least I wouldn't call what I can do welding, and know nothing about stainless welding. I can build the internals from light gauge metal and wire it up/duct it myself. Figured I 'd throw it out to the community.

I need a hood shell shaped like this...

6"-8" tall, 18" wide by 18" deep for a couple inches, tapered back to 12" deep. I'd like it to be at least 16 gauge I think. Solid box all the way around, I'll cut the duct opening in the back where it's needed.

Thoughts???

Anyone want to help a brother out? I will gladly pay/work out a trade, but the budget is tight these days. I can probably dig up the material too unless someone has some scrap material sitting around they'd care to donate to the cause as well.

How about cutting off the endcap, shorten hood to new length and then weld the endcap in place?

That can either be mig or TIG welded. The challenge will be to weld it without distortion.

I can refer you to a company in Durham and another in Raleigh if you don’t get any responses here.

Might check with a hvac shop they might can fab you one pretty easily but not sure on price.
