Recently picked up a new Pelican 1750 for my long gun. Searched the forum for anyone who can cut foam for a rifle case and came across Carolina Custom in a few threads. Got in touch with those guys and unfortunately they only do fully designed gun cases. They did refer me to Eaton Tactical (Gun Formz) but I have not heard anything back from those guys and it's been a week or 2 now.

Watched some videos on DIY'ing it and got as far as tracing the rifle onto cardboard and knew immediately I wasn't going to be happy with it. Back to square 1.

Is there anyone in the greater Charlotte area who can proficiently do this?

Google’s your friend. Search for Pick and Pluck Foam.

We can cut foam. Send me the thickness and I'll ask my guy tomorrow if it's something we can tackle.

Literally was just reading an article about pick and pluck when I saw your comment. The ONLY qualm I have with that is the finished product isn't quite as clean as custom cut. Good alternative for future cases I'm not as concerned with though.

    Hey Stick Man,

The bottom of the case has 2, 1.5" thick pieces of foam. I'm thinking only 1 will need to be cut for the rifle to just poke over the top, which will snug it up nicely when I close the case. I'm watching youtube videos of guys being a lot less careful than I will be and their cases are turning out alright. Might get brave with an electric knife here in a minute.

I did a piece that was 1” or 1.5” with just a razor blade and a pair of scissors. Then glued that down to a second piece. It was good enough for me for vehicle storage.

Not too bad for an idiot with a cuisinart and a microtech. Definitely won't be mistaken for a professional job, but it's serviceable. Rifle Case.jpg

Good job, but I've always thought there should be a cutout behind the grip for your thumb to slide in and under the grip. It's like no one wants to do that.

I’ve seen that before and it looks really good. Fortunate with this rifle I can just grab the open section of the stock

Oh yeah. I'm sure there are plenty of places to grab it. Mine's just a personal preference.

Still think you did an excellent job, based on the picture.
