Anyone taking Earnest Langdon's 3 day Class @ Shoot Logic?

1400 rounds of ammo? Horry cheet. That's like $600 to replace today. Training is invaluable, but faced with personal economic and supply chain realities it would be a stretch for a lot of people. I would very much like to train with Langdon though.

It will cost me $155 to load that ammo with components sitting upstairs. ;) The other considerations are a hotel & food for 3 days and the cost of the training. All in it will cost me easily a $1100. Still might be worth it. :D

Can't look at the cost of what you have, have to look at the cost to replace those components if they can even be had.

I don’t have to replace anything for 5+ years at the rate I currently shoot. If I had to replace in today’s market I am looking at $.04 for SPPP 1000@$40 for SPP, $0.08 for powder is $.01 a round. So $.13 the only hard part about replacing components is SPP but I have passed on 10k @ $35 + shipping because I believe it will be lower by the time I need it.

This post is more about trancing. If we want to talk ammo there are other threads.

LOL, 1400 rounds of ammo....

I think it's a great class, but given the market I am not sure there's going to be a rush to get in. I think where trainers are going to evolve with the market of ammo shortages will be in VTC/zoom training a la Vickers or McPhee.

The other concern I'd have is the health safety of opting to stay in a hotel right now. We know that some luminol spray and a blacklight will turn even the cleanest hotel room into a rave club, so how much do you trust the minimum wage illegal that does housekeeping to kill all the COVID that might be lingering. If there was camping available local to this I'd opt for that as an actually cleaner option.

Way too advanced for me, maybe in a decade or two...lol...or three? I'll start saving up now.
Sounds interesting, though.

I agree that is a concern. I was considering borrowing a friend camper and staying in the state park near the range if I go. I might even be able to borrow a RV which would be stellar. I have to work out the details.

COVID isn’t living that long and hanging out on most surfaces.

Specify that you want a room that wasn’t used last night (most places have that in today’s world) and bring a can of Lysol with you. Walk in, spray all hard surfaces well and do not wipe up. Just let it sit there. Light spray on the pillow cases.

Begin your bedbug inspection with a flashlight.

Once you’re satisfied the room is acceptable, go outside and bring in your bag. Put your bag in one of the several garbage bags you pack, and place that on a hard surface. Don’t move it again while you’re there. Live out of your bag. In another garbage bag, put all used clothes.

Keep the garbage bags sealed when you aren’t using them.

Aside from asking for the unused room, this is the way I have handled hotels for over a decade, ever since bedbugs were the only thing we had to worry about.

Oh, and .... take the training. Whatever else you planned for those 1,400 rounds is likely less valuable.

I agree about the hard surfaces. I had to stay in a hotel for 2 nights about a month ago. I did exactly that. Asked for a room that had not been used the night before. I cleaned all the surfaces lived out of my luggage and requested they not clean the room during my stay. As far as I know I did not catch COVID.

Now one issue with this particular area where the training is being held is the best and I use the term best lightly is a not so nice Day Inn. It does not inspire confidence.

Stay in Summerville, make the commute. Hit up PSA while you’re in town.

I was considering that or the state park near there has a lodge.

Looks like a great course. I’m thinking about it. Where is the best option for lodging?

There is a state park which a lodge and cabins. You can also tent camp or park and RV IIRC. There is a low rent Days Inn which looks a little sketchy. The other is to stay down in Summerville and drive up. There are a lot better hotel options there.

I just spent over 1000 on a class, over 1000 on a rifle, and about another 1000 on a hotel and food for me and the mrs - so i could go build my own garand at CMP.
maybe i'm becoming pessimistic about there being a future, maybe i'm foolishly burning off some of my covid bonus pay, maybe i'm just tired of not doing ANYTHING for the last 6 months.

Go do it if you want to do it. You only live once, and you don't know how long you get to do it for.

Another option is like 15-20 hours of private instruction with a world champion like Todd Jarrett or Chris Tilley.
