Fair warning, I’m a bit biased as I’m an out of shape fattie, who’s daily workout consists of lifting the large Chikfila cup to my mouth. :p

You need to show up wearing clothes in FDE, etc but avoid solid black. Be sure to pack bug & tick spray as your entire day consists of laying on ground surrounded by brush. Also pack water as you can get dehydrated in the ghillie suits VERY easily. Snipers have died suffocating in those suits so take it seriously.

Bring small pocket notebook and take gratuitous notes. It’s a VERY complex class & a lot goes into being able to have professional badasses walk right past you without seeing you. ;)

Picking the correct ghillie suit is critical. I wish I had picked the urban ghillie suit, with its grey and all the trees, I could have done better I think. FDE is also a good pick but it still depends on your environment.

You need to be in shape & round is not what I mean. ;):(
The “stalk” was brutal for me, crawling across the ground trying to sneak up in less than 15 minutes... I’m down to 204 from my 220 and even still, it was a beast.

At one point you have to go in the woods along a trail and hide yourself in ten minutes. That was fun but I picked a bad spot. In my defense however, where I wanted to hide was off limits. :p

So be sure your cardio & endurance is up if you want to go into this field. It’s fun, it’s important, but it is NOT easy.

Pay particular attention to how to camouflage your rifle, that’s an entirely difficult beast as you still have to be able to use the scope, eject the shells, etc.
And for god’s sake, use a rifle that is light... you carrying a nice but heavy ass .308 thru the woods is NOT fun.
How folks like Chris Kyle manage to do this stuff without saying “screw it, just nuke the city” is a mystery unto me. :D

In closing I will say, Ryan’s school is top notch & if I was just a litt bit less out of shape, I’m convinced he’d have me out changing my name to Simo Hayha... LOL

Terrain recon is, but land nav is not. We have a few other classes that cover land nav, but we might work it into Camo and Recon 2.

Thanks for the kind words. You did fine! Dont be so hard on yourself. You are correct, this class does take some endurance- both physically and mentally. We make it hard for a reason. Thanks for coming out my friend. Your comic relief made it amazing!

Thanks! :) No one had used one before, it was just good work and attention to detail put in by the students.

My oldest boy took the class Sunday (he is 24) and he was pretty hyped up about it when he came home. He was talking about he should have started with urban camo, how he wants to modify his ghillie suit, and now he wants to buy a bolt gun. I saw some of the pictures of them hiding and some are very difficult to find. All your eye zones in on is shape. Nothing is clearly a person. I think if you were walking through the woods (and not staring at a picture like i was) you would be hard pressed to see them. He was talking about shadows and stalking slow and staying out of the light as much as possible. Like i said he was pretty hyped. Sounded like a great class!
