Anybody else hike all or part of the Appalachian Trail? I hiked from Amicalola Falls to to the 1/4 way mark in Virginia this past summer. Over 600 miles of living in a tent. Bug Out practice :)

Too out of shape to be hiking 600 miles. We hiked around 7 miles of of the Roan Highlands back in December and plan to do some more soon, beautiful areas up there. Maybe one day I'll have the motivation and time to traverse the entire thing.

Biggest section I have hiked was Fontana to nantahala. Did a section around big creek last year and ran into some thru hikers. Would love to do the entire thing!

I've never hiked the Appalachian Trail... but I've sure hunted near it all my life!

I have never hiked a mile in my life, but I have hunted and covered thousands of miles. Up and Down, no trails except for Deer Trails through the Laurel. Across Rocky Creeks, Rock Cliffs, Ridge side full of Blow Downs. No ATVs, No Trucks.. just Rope and a sling.

But you know what? Hiker's get as much enjoyment as I do at a very peaceful pace and enjoy it! It's the last medium we have to connect ourselves to out primitive explorer. Unless we learn how to breathe underwater and design a rocket.

I don’t think I’ll ever hike the entire AT but do have a goal of hiking the entire Mountains to Sea Trail after I retire.

Not all at once, mind you...

I have a buddy that is hiking in short sections one or two trips a year. He's asked me to go on his next hike probably end of May. Looks like it starts at mile marker 701.7, Dragons tooth. Should be doing 47.7 miles in two and a half days. Last one he did he was averaging over 20 miles a day and I told him I didn't think I could make it that far. Getting out now trying to get in better shape so I can keep up with him.

The problem with 20 mile days is you do not get to stop and take in the wonder of it all.

So was I when I started. I did about 8 miles a day to start and slowly increased. Allowed myself plenty of rest and stretched every time I stopped.

Remember those 50+ MPH winds...with sleet, snow pelting our faces...fearing for our lives??

GOOD TIMES!!!

It was a great trip!.. but that day on the AT was unforgettable!

Hoping you would chime in. I've spent years in the woods hiking, hunting, and fishing. But 50 mph winds on top of the ridge with lightening, thunder, and snow was a first for me too.

Hoping to get Lauren out on another trip this spring but everything is locked up. Karen is offering to drop us off and pick us up to fly under the radar, lol.
