Finally! All I have to do now is go give fingerprints and give them my paperwork, then I guess the waiting begins! Hope it doesn't take months. It's not like they haven't done a bunch of checks on me already, right? I've gotten approved to buy 3 guns! Wish me luck!

Edit...just got my fresh new permit! Pretty fast service!

Which three did you buy?
Good luck!

If you don't have a criminal record, restraining orders against you, or committed for mental issues, why would you need luck. In NC there must be specific reasons to deny a CHP, as it is not arbitrary decision on the part of the Sheriff's department.

I've been having a bunch of issues with many things lately, so though I have no record or any other things you mentioned, I'm trying to get some good luck flowing around me, hoping the issues will stop! I've been so angry at times, I've cursed over the phone!!! I'm sure my sheriff will let me have the permit, just hedging my bets a little.

I bought a . 25 Raven eons ago. Lately the Taurus .38 and more recently a KelTec .380 like the one I shot for my CC class. I'll be asking questions about my next gun soon enough!

Word of caution. They are like Lay' s potato chips. You just can't have but one.[emoji41]

Congrats. Don't expect to have it within 90 days time in most NC counties (even though state law says they only have half that time to actually do the BG check). Cabarrus will not issue one sooner than 90 days
from your 'appointment' time.

Well, 3 so far, and one more planned soon! We'll see what happens after that!

The lady that took my prints this morning says about 4 weeks, but I'm not going to hold my breath! I'm hoping for the best, though. Can't they use the info they got the last time I got a purchase permit? But I suppose they have to do some special checking on my prints? I just want to be legal in toting my gun around....

they do a background check separate from the one they did when you got the Jim Crow permits. Honestly, they should just check NICS and be done with it but 'mental health' check is where it can get gummed up. They inquire at the state hospitals and other places to see if you have ever been committed.

Wouldn't they have done the 'mental' check before they issued me a purchase permit? I figured they'd scrutinize me pretty thoroughly for that. So, now that I have guns already, they check into my mental health? Surely that's the wrong way around. Lol.

its a completely separate process from the purchase permit. It shouldn't be but its treated differently in state law and by the sheriff. Nothing is saved from the BG checks done at each application

Its also yet another reason why the purchase permit needs to be done away with

My advice is that you immediately CANCEL the CHP application. Being able to buy guns without begging the Sheriff's permission each time is extremely risky behavior. Guess how I know that.

Uh.....what? The CHP forgoes the Sheriff each time. That's the reason why I got one vs moving to a state where they no longer beg permission to buy a handgun ala PPP

Ooops, Sarcasm meter wasn't functioning. Carry on!

Actually, I rationalized the cost of class and CHP by telling myself, "If you just buy X guns over the next 5 years, you'll pay for it compared with the same number of PPP's". Little did I know I'd amortize the cost in the first year. :(

Had mine in only 21 calendar days. Davidson when I applied. In Guilford now and plan to renew very early.

I rationalize by keeping my AR15 pistol in .300blk out of sight within reach of most vehicles I am riding in. I work in the newest 'hood part of Charlotte otherwise known as 'University Chitty'

The question is already posted about my next gun purchase....or potato chip...

They don't use you past checks on the chp it's all done again more thoroughly even.

Barnes quit screwing around with people on it and just streamlined the process. I guess he, or rather his staff, got tired of the hassle playing games was causing.

Didn't NC just start allowing one's primary care doctor to deny a permit? "Hey Doc, your patient, #####, has applied for a CCH. Do you think they should be allowed to carry a gun?"
If the doctor is anti-gun, they will always answer no. If that No can't be used for denial, why would it even be allowed to be asked?
