because human rights exceed those of any animal? But why ? "much less wildlife cops."
Sorry man, but the truth and even my own experience during my lifetime simply does not support you. Wildlife populations across the board are better now than they were in the first half of the 20th century, before the establishment of US Fish and Wildlife Service and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. I do have at least some education and experience about this. I served a short stint as a Wildlife Enforcement Officer in the mid 80's. Even during my lifetime (I'm now 65) I have seen a marked improvement in the numbers and variation of wildlife I see. The Wildlife commission does not only work to improve game animal populations, they also have a nongame management program as well.
Wait, do boating accidents, where guns are lost, fall under the jurisdiction of Wildlife Officers?I am not a lawyer, but I expect many of the warrantless searches are allowed under the "exigent circumstances" rule; that is, the evidence would be gone by the time the officer went to a magistrate and got a warrant. Given that he's in remote areas, alone, and the evidence can be dumped overboard or turned loose, that seems reasonable in those circumstances. I realize some of you may disagree and I respect that.
I have a pretty good impression of the game wardens around here. Every one I've ever interacted with has been great to deal with, returned my calls promptly, and acted professionally. Every sport needs a referee on the field. I wouldn't want to be out in the woods hunting without someone to provide some order, protect the herd, and keep the poachers off my land.
He's contracting that out.Thats your job.

Hmmmmm......OK......Let's try this. I'm speaking to everyone here with this. Let's say someone dies, and leaves you in charge. All of a sudden there is no US Fish and Wildlife, no NCWRC, no Game Wardens, no wildlife biologists, no wildlife management folks, no crews to build and maintain boating access areas, no nothing, and everyone looks at you and says.........YOU make up the guidelines as to how we handle this stuff...............OK.....Now you're in charge.......you have total control.........How would you handle things........let's have YOUR ideas. Fire away.
I see you are new here. You will soon learn that there are some here that think the only way to Utopia is no gov or taxes at all.
Let's flip this around. Why do these things have to include "officers" going around treating people like dirt and having an attitude like they have a 16 inch dick and a pair of bowling balls?Hmmmmm......OK......Let's try this. Because the Squirrels need them. You know there would be no Squirrels without warrant less searches. Without stings in which they are the ones committing the crimes. Without harassment. We must put up with these "imperfections" because bambi and thumper can't make it without game wardens.Let's flip this around. That is low, even for you.I've been duck hunting and quail hunting all my life and have had interactions with many wardens. I've never been mistreated. Maybe the common denominator in all of your experiences is you?
When was the last time you saw a quail in the state of NC?I've been duck hunting and quail hunting all my life and have had interactions with many wardens. I've never been mistreated. Maybe the common denominator in all of your experiences is you?

A pay to play doesn't count.
So buy up some land and plant some habitat. It's been a long time. Those landowners that take care of game now harvest every inch of their fields and don't leave hedgherows and grown up corners that is habitat that quail like.

Has anyone provided an example of these "warrantless" searches? Without hearing the exact circumstances how can you say they aren't a valid use of the officer's authority?Because the Squirrels need them. Hi Donnie D (I'm glad you're here and look forward for some links to videos in the future!)
How about letting honest hunters and land owners call the cops when they see poachers, and lets make the cops actually do something, and the courts subsequently punish wrong doers.
That would be a good start.

I'm not a hunter and don't interact with them much so I don't know what their authority actually is so maybe someone can explain what it is and where it is written.
Search the AOC website for citations giving by WRC officers. http://www1.aoc.state.nc.us/www/calendars/OfficerQuery.html
You can search by county. 90% are for things other than wildlife violations, esp during no open hunting season. The role of these wardens has completely changed.
Must be where those Ghillie Suits (not hunter orange), robots and AR15s come in handy.
That is because they are law enforcement the same a Sheriffs, State Troopers, etc. If a Deputy Sheriff sees you firelighting, he will arrest you. If a Wildlife officer sees you driving 90 in a 55 mph zone, he will arrest you.

Thank you John for you comments and ideas. (hope to make a vid soon of the results of a successful deer hunt, but so far it ain't lookin too good). Just keep in mind that the local Police and Sheriffs pretty much have their hands full with domestic issues, and don't have the knowledge and training of fish, game, boating and wildlife issues to handle them. That is what Wildlife Officers are for.
I AGREE 100% with your post. Honest hunters, fishermen, boaters and others trying to enjoy the resources of our beautiful state, that witness poaching and any other violations should report them. But I wouldn't go to a car dealership looking to buy a hunting rifle, and I wouldn't call the Police Dept or Sheriffs Office to report poaching. That is what the Fish and Game Commission is for. Simple.
Law Enforcement is Law Enforcement, You call 911 they then call out the closest Officer. And it is more like you do not go to a Honda Dealer for a new Ford. But I wouldn't go to a car dealership looking to buy a hunting rifle, and I wouldn't call the Police Dept or Sheriffs Office to report poaching. That is what the Fish and Game Commission is for. Simple.
Plain view rule, sure. I'm talking about this "authority" people are referring to to search vehicles people and houses without warrants, and without probable cause. An "authority" I am not entirely sure exists. As far as I remember from my law enforcement training, and that was a looooooong time ago, this is an example...... Say you were pulled over by a State Trooper for speeding, and when he approached your vehicle, he could plainly see a large bale of wacky weed in the back seat, he would not need a search warrant to take it, and further search your vehicle, and deal with you accordingly. It was in plain sight and he did not have to search your vehicle to find it. If I'm wrong about this I apologize.
Now you have to be a welder too!As far as the notion of having one law enforcement agency handle everything (the WDALEA...We Do it All Law Enforcement Agency...I left out the "i" for "it" because it looks cooler that way) I see it kinda like this. I've been doing carpentry and woodworking (just two of my many hobbies) since I was a young'un (65 now), and I know quite a bit about those types of tools, I own many. However, over the years I've fallen for a couple of the "this tool does it all" thing, and yes (even in my infinite wisdom) I've bought a few. I also found out that those do it all tools indeed do a lot of jobs.....but do none of them well.
