Ive honestly never really had a mag that I "didn't like" because I have never had one that didn't work. Troy mags probably fall lowest on the list of mags I own, not because they don't work, but because they just don't "feel" as sturdy to me. But again, never had functional issues with them...then again, the most hostile environment ive ever taken them through was when I drove through Cary once.

Like Boog, I like several different types that all work for me.

But my preference is the smoked Lancers. Just have a good feel and it is nice to see rounds in mag at a glance.
I have several magpuls that allow for extensions (taccom 18 round) that won't fit Lancers, so I use those a lot, too.

If I just had to pick one over the other, it would be whichever I grabbed first. I have discerned no differences.

Do the metal lips on a Lancer mag scratch the brass?

I am in Team Magpul. I have a ton of Colt USGI mags wrapped and stored but I’ve had no reason to try anything new. My PMags are flawless

I started with Gen2 windowed Pmags but have two Mega lowers with extra tight magwells that won't play well with Pmags. I got turned onto Lancer's several years ago and have never looked back. I agree that the smoke versions are great for round management at a glance.

BTW Brownell's has the 10-pack of Lancer Translucent FDE mags on sale for $130 and discount code: MCL should get you 10% off + FREE shipping (today only) even on back orders

EDIT: looks like the smoke 10-pack are also on sale for $140

Like others, I have piles of PMAGS and piles of USGI mags. Unlike AKs, I prefer plastic mags for my ARs, and run PMAGs probably 90%+ of the time. I've just never had a single issue with any of them to warrant thinking twice about using them.

Was it when they were at the match giving them away? That's when I gave them a shot and found them extremely impressive.

Perfect magpul because they are cheaper. I’d prob buy the lancer translucent if they were priced the same as Pmags

Yes, that was my introduction to Lancer. Coincidentally it was also the same time I found out the magwell in the Mega lower I had used for my SBR was on the tight side of the spec. A tight magwell and Lancers go together like PB&J.

USGI or Lancer. I don't trust polymer feed lips.

Thanks for all the replies. I’ve always been a magpul guy but this thread stemmed from a friendly debate with a buddy who claims Lancer mags are superior due to the steel feed lips and base plates. His assertion backed up by a poorly done YouTube video is that any kind of rough handling of a pmag will result in it cracking and failing, specifically if it is dropped.

@Combat Diver in your deployments did you ever have any pmag failures? And did you ever work with guys that chose Lancer over pmag?

While I’m sure Lancer are fine mags and have nothing against them I do not believe pmags are as fragile as my buddy argues. Of course steel is going to be stronger than plastic but that doesn’t mean the plastic is unreliable.

Lancer is my preference. I have zero issues with pmags but I like the construction of the Lancers more.

Same here. I have lots of Pmags but I just prefer Lancer smoke mags.

Only steel mags that I was ever issued where HK Maritime 30 rd mags. I've found that the feed lips can be bent. I have no issue with USGI mags since 83', all of the 20 rd mags I'm still using were made in 71'. Just got 4 NIB window PMag brown mags today. Haven't seen a single Lancer downrange nor a single PMag failure.
