What's a good muzzle device for your AR that doesn't deafen you or your neighbors on the range?

I'm looking for something to put on an AR pistol that will direct concussion and sound forward and have some measure of recoil reduction etc.

anyone with a serious response? I am considering the suppressor.

Silencer is definitely the best option.

But scan through this thread: https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php?threads/kaw-valley-precision-linear-comp.54277/

And there are a couple links to other threads in that one.

If you thought you’d end up with a silencer, you could use their QD mount now if they also offered a blast shield.

I’ve pleased with the linear comp I posted in the threads above, which I paid ~$12 for off eBay.

A flash can is probably a little quieter, but not by much. Something like this:

That’s the KAK micro. They make others, at least a standard and an extended.

And if you want a couple examples of what not to buy based on your described wants/needs...

This riot brake on a 7.5” 5.56 is only enjoyable if you’re the shooter and have plugs and muffs:

And these two:

Basically...don’t buy a brake unless you’re mounting a silencer on it. Or at least a blast deflector. In case you didn’t know they existed, here’s an example from YHM:

That’s a QD flash hider for their silencers, but their brakes work the same for mounting. The blast deflector mounts the same way as the silencers.

I had considered the ASR brake and ASR Blast shield. But man, that combo is expensive! I should just bite the bullet and get a omega 30.

Blast diverters seem to increase recoil to me.

I've got a linear comp on a .308. Before I moved the club I shot at had a roof over the firing line benches. I'm already near deaf so I didn't want to worsen the damage and that roof was like shooting in a drum. Problem solved with the linear comp. Yes, it did increase recoil a touch, but not a big deal when sitting down.
I've also got a flash can on a PCC. That's a placeholder until I can get a can going. The hand guard is 2.5" longer than the barrel so the flash can makes it functional until I find a can for it.

I have a SureFire Procomp brake on my Daniel Defense and it is awesome, but I think for a fighting rifle I’m just going to stick with a A2 flashhider. That brake would be brutal to shoot in in close quarters.

I use a Surefire brake with a Warden blast mitigator on my AR10

Doesn't seem to make felt recoil any greater

I've got a lightly used Troy Claymore I took off my SU16. Throws all the noise and flash towards the target so unless you shoot at your neighbour's it would help.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Does one of those blast shields negate the recoil advantage given by a brake? Wouldn't that be about like blowing on the sail of your sailboat to make it go?

I have a Ruger that had a muzzle brake on it that was so loud that it was not fun to shoot even with ear plugs and ear muffs. I could not get the thing off to replace it with a flash hider so I took a hack saw to it and removed the portion that has the lateral holes in it. It shoots more pleasantly now. I might seek a suppressor one of these days. That would be nice.

I use the Warden and there's no issue with people on either side......

I remove it, it rattles teeth on either side of me.

With either set up, it doesn't bother me being behind the rifle
