I recently pick up a S&W M&P 10. Trigger had been messed with so just going to replace it. Plan on setting it up for hunting. Have no idea about triggers. I have polished a few factory AR triggers but other than that- nothing. Will use it for coyote and maybe some deer. Do I get a single stage, 2 stage? I mainly just want something that is crisp and goes bang and doesn’t hurt my wallet. Any help would be appreciated.

Plus one for the CMC single stage. I have several and all perform really well.

I recently changed every single one of mine out for the EPT from PSA. They’ve been ~$35 w/ free shipping for most of the year.

There was an earlier discussion saying they’re rebranded from somebody else, so you might be able to find one in stock other than PSA. Here’s one:

If this guy still has any of the LaRue triggers left, that’s another option that won’t break the bank.

This guy probably has one for a couple bucks more:

It's really hard to beat the LaRue MBT triggers. In my estimation they offer the single best quality-for-price purchase out there.

Yep I’ve been eyes those but I’ve never had a 2 stage trigger so wasn’t sure how they were in a hunting rifle or if a 2 stage was needed. I rarely had to do a follow up shot so I assume the 2 stage wouldn’t be necessary?

The LaRue MBT is hard to beat for the money, I have one in my 6.5 Grendel rifle and have a second one waiting to go into my wife’s “target” AR because I prefer 2 stage triggers in my “accurate” rifles, but for run & gun kind of stuff I prefer a single stage and have several 3.5-4 # triggers from CMC, POF and they are pretty comparable in the $90-$125 range imo, if you’re going to spend big money don’t screw around and go straight for a Geissele, they are damn good triggers but a bit spendy for me.

They also make a very good single stage. I personally find a 2-stage gives better accuracy, but that's a sample size of one...

I’ve never shot a 2-stage that I’m aware of. I didn’t realize the 2S vs 1S when I posted those links. 🙄

🤣🤣

Ok last question, straight or curved? I assume that’s more of a preference but I’ve never shot anything other than curved. Any advantages over one than the other?

Geissele dynamic 2-stage.
Light first pull then the wall let’s you know the shot is coming. Flat trigger.

Two stage just means there’s a bit of take-up before you get to the “wall” and trigger breaks.

Single has no take-up at all. Just a wall. So no slack or movement before trigger breaks.

If you like a glass rod style feel, a single stage like CMC/POF/Hiperfire will provide that.

Many two-stage, like Geissele, are really more of a “carrot” type break. Has a little roll to it. Not really a glass rod crisp break.

For trigger blade itself: the flat trigger tend to set further out. So if you feel jammed up with a curved trigger (finger tip too close into grip) maybe this is better.
Maybe you have a shorter finger and prefer curved. These ergonomics are exacerbated by the type of grip you use. Does it have a beavertail like a Magpul maid or none like an A2 grip? Makes a difference.
Flat and curved also just feel different and put your finger in a different spot vertically.

So hard to say what you will like. Your likely to go through changes as you discover and try different things. Any of the ones mentioned will likely serve you well and will be a vast improvement over the milspec.

Just my opinions!

I've got a Geissele SSP with flat trigger in my p&w 14.5". Love it. Never fired anything but milspec single stages & am comfortable with them, so I was hesitant about trying a 2 stage. I've got ALG QMS & ACT "fluff & buff" milspecs in the other ARs & like 'em, but wanted something "nice" in this one. Woulda gone the CMC single stage route, but PA ran a sale on the SSPs for $170 & I decided to go for it. Don't know all the technical, cool guy trigger jargon, but it's damned nice. I think they claim ~3.5 lb trigger pull. Light, but not too light, no creep & crisp break.

My fiancé likes it curved.

Wait, you mean triggers. All mine are straight

I remember seeing a thread in the hot deals section about a CMC triggers so I pulled the trigger and ordered one. 3.5lb single stage. We shall see. I may see if I know someone who has a flat and 2 stage that I can try out. May chance my mind if I do. We shall see. Thanks for all the info. Y’all are the best!

I own a bunch of CMMG triggers.
They are good.
Only down side is they require you to take the gun apart, removing the grip, spring, detent, safety to clean.
You can not service them, they work or they don't. If they don't you return them.
That said several others here use the standard type with upgrades, coatings and they are good to go.

I have them in a lot of PCC and hunting guns. They would not me my pick if I was planning to use that weapon as someone in the military would.

I want to be able to pull pins if needed clean and go.

Would be really interested to see if anyone that has been in combat used or knows of a type trigger like that [CMC] being used. And yes there are select fires like that.

CMC makes first class cassette triggers, LaRue makes just as good single and two stage triggers. Giesell also makes wonderful triggers. It's just a matter of what you want.....

CMC and MBT straights are my go to triggers. I really like Geissele, have a SSA, always wanted a SD-3G but they just hurt the wallet a bit too much for my liking. ALG defense ACT triggers get a lot of praise as well but they are closer to a mil spec trigger. IIRC that's Geissele's wifes company.

I think the OP has made up his mind, but for those that are reading this, I'd recommend rise armament for the 3.5 single stage trigger range. Less expensive, but just as good IMO. I personally prefer flat triggers, but it's also preference. I find flat triggers just provide a much better feel, but I'm also not competing. I might think differently if I were using my rifle for sport. For precision, the cmc offers some nice 2 - 2.5lb options. I have a 2x2 (2lb takeup, 2lb break) flat cmc in my 223 wylde precision and it's my favorite. My AR10 308 precision has a 2.5lb single stage curved, but only because the flat simply wasn't available when the sale was going on. Still a great trigger, but that 2x2 flat is my favorite. If I were defending my home, I'd go with a single stage 3.5+. When nerves are on the line, a 2lb trigger is friggin feather weight and will go off if you just think it. When punching paper, a 2.5 almost feels heavy.

Single stage vs 2 stage seems to be purely a personal choice.

I'm super impressed with my larue 2 stage, and feel like it really does come close to my geissele ssae. That said I'm a 2 stage guy through and through. I've had single stage cmc and pof triggers and hated them both.

If you can, I definitely recommend finding somewhere/someone who can let you try both types out!

I have a POF in my AR10 and a Hyperfire in my rimfire comp gun. I have tried CMC and Geissele. No need to be picky, look for a deal because they are all pretty darn good
All my other ARs have the .25 cent trigger job and the setscrew trick, which is honestly close to as good as the fancy expensive ones
