AR15 rail size for 16" barrel

Hey folks,

It's been awhile since I built an AR and wanted to make sure I order the correct handrails. I will have a 16" barrel and wanted to cover most of the barrel with a 15" rail.

Would a 15" rail be ok ?

I prefer longer rails, from 13”-15” on a 16” barrel.

Here’s a 15” Aero rail on a 16” Ballistic Advantage barrel I built a while back

I can get a picture of my 13” Geissele Mk8 on a 16” for comparison in a little bit. My weapon light blocks the gap in all the current pics I have of it

And I prefer a slightly shorter rail on my 16" rifle, especially if the gun has a stainless barrel. I like to see some of the barrel. The time I want all of the barrel hidden is on my suppressed SBRs and pistols.

Here's a 12" rail on a 16" stainless barrel.

Like @kcult can vouch for, sometimes less length gets the job done. This is my Geissele Mk8 13” on my 16” Ultramatch
